Doreen HOFER

HOFER, Doreen Ethel (nee Doerksen) Left her earthly home, surrounded with love and peace, on May 30, 2018. Her 80-year journey began on April 2, 1938. She was the second of three girls born to Sam and Lena Doerksen. Growing up on the homestead near Langham, she shared her childhood with her sisters Nora and Eileen. She attended school in Langham and grade 11 at Caronport High School. Herb and Doreen married on June 27, 1958. Her career included employment at The Bay and Saskatoon Public Schools. Doreen was grateful to be a mother; a grandma and a great-grandmother. Many friendships were nurtured through work, church, and in her neighborhood. She appreciated the memorable visits with the many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and was always delighted to receive a phone call or an annual letter. At the ball park, school gym, oval or rink, she was a fan to her children and grandsons. Doreen loved watching curling and baseball on tv and kept busy with her hobbies; they included cross-stitch, macramé and quilting. Quilting creativity was her sanity and joy, especially during Herb's dementia diagnosis. She was kind hearted to all she encountered. Once you met Doreen you would not forget her smile, her stories and her genuine grace-filled spirit. Left to journey this earth without her is her son Warren (Cara, Anna, Mia (Lena), Cali, Aidri, Vandam, Tanny, Rubi) and daughter Lisa (Daniel, Brayden, Brett, Jade); her sisters Nora (Mark, Pat, Scott, Jan, Cheyanne, Russell and families) and Eileen (Dwight, Gwen, Debbie, Dwight, Blair, Wanda and families) and many close friends that she truly valued over her lifetime. All of whom have expressed the gratitude of knowing her but have sadly acknowledged the void it will leave in their lives without her. Herb, Sam and Lena, Albert and Susie, Walter, Alvin, and Ove; including many relatives and friends that have passed before her, welcomed her to the garden in Heaven with open arms. May we all be comforted by the wonderful memories of her friendship, quirkiness and kindness. When you have loved someone your whole lifeyou can be sure that their love surrounds you still. The family would like to show their appreciation to the visitors and professionals at St. Paul's Hospital (6th Floor Medicine) for the excellent care and consideration during the multiple myeloma diagnosis and ensuring her comfortable passing with dignity. It was Doreen's wish that in lieu of a traditional funeral, she would prefer a gathering of friends and family at the Old Emmanuel Church, (Hwy 16 towards Langham, turn left on Mierau Road, and then left on Range Road 3071), on June 27, 2018. A celebration of Doreen's life will begin at 11:00 a.m. with luncheon and fellowship to follow. This significant date, chosen by Doreen, is her and Herb's 60th Wedding Anniversary. She will gratefully smile down from heaven and be humbled by the love expressed at this gathering.
