Wife. Mother. Gigi. Sister. Friend. Nurse. All simple words to describe an amazing lady that blessed this earth until her passing on Nov. 1, 2022. Born in Lampasas, TX on Nov. 2, 1955, Doretha Klose Bohning lived the majority of her life serving others as a certified LVN. A 1974 graduate of Lampasas High School, Doretha would later graduate with 15 classmates from Temple Junior College in the 1975 inaugural LVN program.
In 1977, Doretha married Robert Bohning. His sisters knew Doretha through stock shows, introducing the two while he was in college. Robert would not date her until after his graduation from Tarleton State University and a move to Lubbock, 280 miles away when his sister told him to ask Doretha out. Robert made a lasting impression on their first date when he saved Doretha from kicking a skunk while gathering eggs. From that day forward, Robert and Doretha never missed an opportunity to spend time together. While the happy couple was married for 45 years, it actually took two officiants to marry them because they were both partial to their own pastors. They resided in Bay City for 34 years before retiring to Lampasas County.
Doretha spent her years in Bay City working as a nurse, a certification she kept for 46 years. She was known as the mom to all of Rachael‘s friends, never missing one of her daughter‘s activities. Their one daughter, Rachael Richmond, and husband, Curtis, gave Gigi two grandsons, Gavin and Gage. Gigi filled the past 13 years hunting, fishing, and working cows with Robert and the boys. She enjoyed hosting family and friends at Rockin’ 11, their family ranch established in 2004. She often surprised friends and others with meals and treats. Gigi was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bay City and the First United Methodist Church of Lampasas.
Doretha was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mildred Klose, and brother-in-law, Charley Isom. She is survived by her husband, Robert Bohning; daughter, Rachael Richmond, and husband, Curtis Richmond; grandsons, Gavin and Gage; and her loving sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Lampasas, Saturday, November 5 at 10 a.m. A private burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery of Lampasas at a later date.
