Doris L. Bertsch

Funeral Services for Doris L. Bertsch, age 89 of Mott, will be held at 2:00pm Friday, September 13, 2013 at Zoar Congregational Church in Mott. Pastor Corey Warner will officiate with burial in Sunnyslope Cemetery at Mott. DORIS LOUISE STOCKING was born September 3, 1924 in Spain, SD to Clare and Lena (Roehr) Stocking. She was raised and educated in Hettinger, ND. Doris married Vern Carroll on September 22, 1945 in Baker, MT. Following their marriage, they moved to the Carroll homestead north of Hettinger where they raised their seven children. She worked side by side with her husband Vern raising chickens, pigs, cows, sheep, and always a big garden. After selling the farm years later, Doris and Vern moved around a bit before settling in Mott. Vern passed away on December 18, 1987. Doris married Ted Bertsch in October of 1990. They spent 10 years together traveling and visited most every state. Her biggest joy was her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, board games, embroidery, and baking. Peach pie and doughnuts were the favorites. Doris had a strong faith and stayed active in church. Words to describe this blessed person would be adventurous, kind, witty, funny and loving. Doris passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Mott Good Samaritan Society. Surviving family members include her 5 daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Larson, (Marvin Damm), Mott, ND; Peggy Schumaier, Minot, ND; Bonnie and Henry Heidt, Carson City, NV; Sandi and Jason Kerver, Carson City, NV; Kelly and Terry Braun, Williston, ND; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Diane Carroll, Carson City, NV, Allen and Vicki Carroll, Mott, ND; 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 sister and brother-in-law, Vada and Kenny Doerr, Hettinger, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vern Carroll, her husband, Ted Bertsch, 2 sons-in-law, Jim Larson and Larry Schumaier; an infant granddaughter, Becky Landis; her sister, Elnor Erickson, 5 brothers, Merle (at age 5), Alvin and Kenneth during WWII, Fay, Floyd and Orville. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1:00 to 7:00pm, Friday from 9:00 to 12 noon at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott and one hour prior to services at Zoar Congregational Church in Mott. There will be a family service open to family and friends on Friday at 10:00 am at the funeral home. .
