Elaine, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at her son's home in Rainbow City, AL, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 87 years old.

Elaine spent her youth in the Black Hills of South Dakota, raised her family in White Bear Lake, MN, and retired to Shelbyville, TN. She was a quiet, peace-loving soul dedicated to her family and faithful to the Lord and His church. She had a passion for the arts and enjoyed drawing, painting, and crocheting. She loved the outdoors, singing, dancing, skating, skiing, camping, canoeing, and bowling. She and her husband Perry belonged to several square dancing and bowling clubs during their 67 years of marriage. She is survived by her four children: David LeRay Casteel, Donald Eugene Casteel, Janice Elaine Slosson, and Judith Arlene Janda. She was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In their retirement, Perry and Elaine built and established Tri Star Winery in Shelbyville, TN, where they served as proprietors from 1993 to 2013. Elaine also established and ran an advertising business out of their home in White Bear Lake, MN, during the 1970's. Throughout her lifetime she contributed to the success of several other companies with her business intellect, bookkeeping and organizational skills, outgoing and friendly personality, artistic gifts, and immeasurable talent.

Elaine was very active in high school, participating in many clubs and activities while excelling in her classes. She was crowned twice, once as Sophomore Class Queen and again in her senior year as All School Queen. Her senior year also saw her elected as President of The Girls' Athletic Association. From there she went on to receive her bachelor's degree in business from Colorado Women's College. Her insatiable thirst for knowledge & growth propelled her further to take additional courses at the University of Minnesota, Lakewood Community College, and St. Cloud State University.

Though she moved several times over the years, Elaine's heart remained in the Black Hills of South Dakota. In 2011 she published a book called 'Trojan'. In it she fondly shares her memories of growing up in a town that has since ceased to exist.

Our hope is to return Perry and Elaine, together, to the Black Hills on what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary in August of 2026.
