Doris Falconer Obituary

Published by Victoria Times Colonist from Sep. 12 to Sep. 14, 2015.
FALCONER, Doris 1923 - September 4, 2015 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Doris Falconer after a brief illness. Doris was predeceased by her mother Borghild Jackson and her husband JRD (Bob) Falconer. Doris is survived by her sister Vivian (Ian) Blake; loving children Ron (Lucie), John (Frances), Bruce (Linda), Lawrence and Diane (Eric); grandchildren Elise (Mark), Rob, Amanda (Jeremy), Cameron, Angela, Andrea and Megan and 10 great grandchildren. Doris was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan before her family moved to the beautiful west coast where she attended school in Vancouver and met her future husband Bob. Bob was in the military and resulted in her travelling across the country where she raised her children. In the mid 1960's she returned to work primarily for the old UI department. Upon Doris' retirement from the EI office in Victoria she took up her favorite sport, golf, by joining the Royal Oak Golf Course when it first opened. She made many friends at the club and continued to golf until 2012. The family would like to thank the Canadian Red Cross and the many nurses and HCAs on 7D north at VGH, who provided the care she needed during her final days. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association. No service will be held for Doris at her request.

Doris was a a great friend! A wonderful coffee buddy for many many years ! We ate bran muffins fried on the griddle for coffee. The exact same dinner for 5 at the Yokahama for girls night out for years, even after Doris's retirement. I remember Doris fondly, her laughter was infectious and her strength inspirational. Doris's children and grandchildren were the centre of her stories and my thoughts are with them.

I worked with Doris at the Unemployment Office on Fort Street in the 80s. She was a very hard worker and great leader; made sure us young girls were working hard and getting the job done right. We had a lot of laughs. I used to tease her about finding a truck driver for that truck of hers. Often wondered how she was enjoying her retirement and thinking it was probably on the golf course. A retirement that was well deserved. Thoughts go out to her family at this difficult time.

I worked with Doris for many years. Doris was a hard worker but knew how to have fun too. I remember Doris when I make her now famous Spinach Dip, the best recipe ever. Over the years I have wondered about Doris and I am happy to see that she lived to a good age and enjoyed her retirement.

I worked with Doris at the federal government for many many years. Loved her out going spirit and sense of humour. I have fond memories of our regular Yokahama Dinners. My thoughts go out to her family at this very difficult time.

Oh my dear Doris we were friends for so many years in the government. Shared many memorable dinners with the girls (Teresa, Sheila, Erna) at our favorite spot the Yokohoma. You will be thought of fondly and remembered dearly. My thoughts go to the families.
