Doris Glenda Gossett

Doris Glenda Gossett, age 84 of Etowah died Thursday, April 7th, 2016 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation. Doris was born January 7th, 1932 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina; a daughter of the late Coy and Goldia Banks Blythe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Terry G. Gossett, as well as her sister, Caroline Jo Moyes.
A longtime resident of Henderson County; Doris graduated from Etowah High School and attended Furman University and Brevard College. Doris married Furman Glenn Gossett on November 4th, 1952 in Greenville, SC and together they owned and operated Gossett Construction, Inc. until their retirement in 1990. She was a member of Etowah Baptist Church since 1947 where she taught Sunday school for almost 30 years. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ for church, singing in the church choir and volunteering at church. She also enjoyed substitute teaching at Etowah Elementary School. She was a member of the Grange and enjoyed working in her large vegetable and flower garden.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Furman Glenn Gossett of the home; one son, Michael Glenn Gossett of Clemson, SC; and one grandson, Jason Gossett of Clemson, SC.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 in the Sanctuary of Etowah Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Brian Henderson and Reverend John Stevens. Burial will follow the service in Oak Forest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Doris' memory be directed to the Oak Forest Cemetery Maintenance Fund at 112 Nicholson Lane, Etowah, NC 28729.
