Doris V. Jahnke

Doris V. (Morthorst) Jahnke, 80 of Lafayette, passed away on February 10, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. at her residence. Doris was born on July 20, 1933 in Chicago, IL to the late Henry and Edith (Sudbrink) Morthorst. She graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1951, and went on to attend St. Xavier in Chicago, IL. Doris married Donald H. Jahnke in Chicago Heights, IL , and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1994. Doris worked in the Claims Department for Stewart & Miller Insurance Company for 22 years before retiring in 2004. She was a former volunteer for the Indiana Veterans Home, a member of St. Lawrence Church, enjoyed reading, and cross word puzzles. Doris was loved b her six children, Deitrah (husband: Orville) Womack of Mokena, IL, Debra (husband: Daniel) Matheny of Vero Beach, FL, Diane (husband: Douglas) Born of Coal City, IL, Donald L. Jahnke of Chicago, IL, Denise (husband: Brian) McLauchlan of Steger, IL, and Mary (husband: Christopher) Colacino of Las Vegas, IL. Also surviving are three sisters, Rosemary Hoffer of Portland, OR, Janet Brown of Mequon, WI, Judy (husband: Robert) Greene of Madison, WI, 17 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren. She had nieces, nephews, and a great many friends who also loved her dearly. Doris is preceded in death by a son, James Alden Jahnke, and a sister, Laurel Maul.
