Doris Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 4, 2019.
Doris Robertson Murphy, 90, of Lynchburg passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Raymond H. Murphy.

Born in Lynchburg, October 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Alvin E. Robertson and Gernie Gordon Robertson. Having joined in 1942, she was a longtime member of Christ Community Fellowship United Methodist Church, formerly Southview UMC. For many years she was active in her church. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served as Sunday School Superintendent. She also served on the official board. Among her many life accomplishments, her most rewarding was keeping her granddaughters until they were old enough to go to school. They will never forget playing dress up and restaurant, and the afternoon chip and dip parties with "Mama Darcy/Granny".

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell "Ike" Robertson and Howard Gordon and two sisters, Frances "Hank" Ryan and Helen Carter.

She is survived by two daughters, Mickey M. Martin and her husband Wade and Donna M. Sloman and her husband Mark; four grandchildren, Kristin M Paul and husband Mike and Kelli M. LaPrade and husband Dennis, Sara E. Sloman and Hannah M. Sloman; four great grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Rachael and Ryan Paul; one brother, William A. Robertson and his wife Geraline and her sister-in-law, Pat Robertson Singleton and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank her dedicated caregivers, Judy Falls, Barbara Campbell and Heidi Scott and the Palliative care and Pulmonary teams at Lynchburg General for their guidance and care.

A graveside service will be conducted at 12 Noon, Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Phil Showers officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Christ Community Fellowship United Methodist Church, 1601 Cliff St., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
