Doris Tillman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2025.
Doris Jean Tillman, of Woodville, FL, died on Thursday, September 18 at Azalea Gardens Memory Care, following a sharp decline in health the last few months. She was 87 years old.

Doris was born in Lexington, Kentucky as the youngest of seven children to Charles "Joe" and Aileen (Watson) Browning. Her early childhood was highlighted by playing "airplane" on the front porch swing with her brother Joe, Jr. and pretending to parachute out to help the national effort in World War II. She was a graduate of LaFayette High School in Lexington and spent most of her career in bookkeeping and administrative positions. In the early 60s and in the 80s, she also taught ballroom dancing at the Arthur Murray studios in Lexington and Tallahassee, respectively. She loved dancing, but found her greatest joy in the love and care of animals, especially cats. Other activities included scuba and learning to solo pilot a glider. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodville.

Doris is pre-deceased by her parents, by her siblings Ruby, Virginia, Woodrow, Lucille, Katherine, and Joe, her two former husbands, Jason Alford and Andrew Tillman, her son, Nathan Tillman, and by her sweetheart Lloyd Johnson. She is survived by her son, Jason Lee Alford (Ann) Tillman of East Aurora, NY, by chosen family John (Sandy) McNair of Woodville, FL, and by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and by her three cats.

Her ashes will be interred at a later date during a small graveside service in Lawrenceburg, KY.
