Dorothea Higgins Obituary

FLORENCE -- Dorothea Nevils Higgins, 86, died Sunday, April 21, 2002 in a local retirement center after an illness.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23 in Chatham Hill Cemetery in Cheraw, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home of Florence.

She was born in Rowesville, a daughter of the late Dr. George and Elma Stokes Nevils. She was the widow of Robert Knox Higgins.

Mrs. Higgins was a teacher in the public schools of Virginia and a member of First Methodist Church in Cheraw.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothea H. Gilbert of Suffolk, Va; a son, Robert Knox Higgins Jr. of Moncks Corner and a granddaughter, Mary Margaret Gilbert.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave. North, Suite 101, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577; or to the First Methodist Church, Cheraw.
