Dorothy Baker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2022.
In the afternoon of August 16, 2022, Dorothy Baker, a Phoenix resident, died at age 73.

Dorothy, known as Dotti, was born to William and Dorothy in Philadelphia in 1949. As a young adult, she relocated to California where she met and married Christopher J Baker. They moved to Phoenix, and Dotti became a full-time mom to two daughters, Megan and Caryn.

Dotti was active in all she did. Whether PTA, Girl Scouts, Bible study, or book club, she always took a leadership role. She was devoted in her faith and religious studies. Once her children were grown, she accepted an administrative position at Golden Gate Seminary, and she thrived there for 15 years. Others could always count on her for a kind word and warm smile.

Dotti was a wonderful mother. She was widowed at 50, and she and her daughters became very close traveling, seeing Broadway shows, and spending lots of time together. She was overjoyed to become a grandmother and loved all three of her grandchildren dearly. She created holiday and birthday traditions that will last generations.

Dotti was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, and brother. She is survived by her daughters, 5 siblings, 3 grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on August 29th at 3 pm at Black Mountain Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly request a donation to Black Mountain Baptist Church or Parkinson's Foundation.

I just heard that Dottie is home with Jesus. Such a sweet and fun lady! I had the privilege of traveling from Gateway´s Brea Campus and meeting Dottie at Mill Valley, CA for annual staff meetings. We always managed to take an extra vacation day after the meetings each year and sight see with the other regional campus ladies. We had lots of laughs and I look forward to more of them when we are reunited in Heaven. I will be praying for Dottie´s family and friends in the days ahead.

Dotti was always friendly and helpful whenever I went in to get things straightened out for my classes. She was truly a blessing to my life as I attended seminary

I always enjoyed visiting with Dotti as a seminary student and friend. She was so kind and personable. She definitely made a significant contribution to the Arizona Campus of Gateway!

Dotti was the first welcoming face I saw on the night of my very first seminary class. I was a tad nervous, that very first class, being only one of two women in a classroom full of male students! She put me right at ease and was such an encouragement to me. I loved sitting in her office with her and chatting, taking advantage of her candy jar! I'll never forget her kindness and her smile, and how much she ministered to me at a time I needed it most. I'm sorry I'm not able to attend the service on the 29th, but will be there in thought and prayer. My condolences to her family. "Until we met again, Dotti!"

Dottie was Honey to me. It was great to reconnect on FB after many years. She was so proud her children and grandchildren. Rest in Peace, Honey.

Dorothy was a very special sister always. It was she who organized a family reunion on our late Mother's 90th birthday and we will all be grateful that she did this for us all. She has always been there for us and she will continue to be in our hearts forever and always. We Miss you Honey.

One of my fondest memories of Dotti is right after I first met her. She came from Arizona to PA for my wedding to her brother. Our honeymoon was delayed due to flight problem, however our luggage departed on another plane, without us. The only clothes we had was what we were wearing, and my feet were so cold. My new sister in law sent two pairs of her socks to our hotel room for me to wear. I'll never forget her generosity. You're always in my heart.

What a wonderful lady! I have only known Dottie during the past few years at The Enclave at Anthem.
She was a prayer worrier and incredibly faithful and strong.
Her faith during this incredible walk was an inspiration.
Bless you, girls, for loving mom through this horrific journey.
Rest in peace precious one.

My sincere condolences to the family. Never having met Dotti personally, this loving tribute allows me to sense this kind, steadfast woman and the way she mothered her daughter, my friend, Megan. Blessings to all.
