Dorothy BROWN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2022.
It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Marion Brown announce her passing on November 13, 2022. Dorothy, a much loved and life-long resident of her beloved city of Galt, Ontario, passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 98 years. Dorothy's life was defined by selflessness and giving. She was actively involved in her community, her church, and was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, and mother to her family. Dorothy tirelessly volunteered her time and energy with the Cambridge Silver Star Society, the Red Cross, the Cambridge Hospital Auxiliary, and Meals on Wheels. And, as a long-standing member of the Church Choir and the Women of the Church, Dorothy became a steadfast fixture of Knox's Presbyterian Church, Galt. She loved summers at the cottage, and time at home with her bridge club, her bowling league, and Sunday gatherings with her family. She will be remembered by her children, John Gordon Brown (Betty Ann Brown), Mary Elizabeth Lyon (Michael Duncan Lyon), and Robert Peter Brown (Sherry Anne Robinson); her grandchildren, Scott Allen Brown, Darcy Oliver Brown (Jennifer Anne Brown), Taryn Elizabeth McGillis (James William McGillis), Mark Andrew Lyon, Michael Richard Lyon (Genevieve Lyon), Caithrin Alexander Rintoul, Jenna Louise Brown, and six greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by John Peter Brown, her husband of 52 years, her eldest son, James Allen Brown, his wife Carol Brown, and their son, Gregory James Brown. A service for Dorothy will be held on November 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St N, Cambridge, Ontario. Memorial Donations may be made in Dorothy's name to The Cambridge Food Bank, 54 Ainslie St S, Cambridge, Ontario N1R 3K3. The family wishes to thank the staff at Chartwell Queen's Square Terrace and at Freeport Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.

We were sad to hear of Mrs Browns passing but very happy to have known her. She was a dear friend of my mother and father. Cottage visits and countless Bridge night. I remember so much laughter. Mom would be surprised you joined her the same year. Lots of heavenly Bridge now. Rest is peace.

I stayed with the Brown's for two months before my last high school year in 1985/86 because my family had moved away from Cambridge and Rob was my friend. I was welcomed by his parents as if I was another family member that had simply been away and had come back to claim my place at the table. My laundry was done, my mess was cleaned, my plates were brought to the kitchen...and almost never by me. I had wanted to help out, to show my appreciation for getting to live in such a fine and friendly place...but I never really got the chance to do chores. Mrs. Brown was a whirlwind of energy in service of others. But more importantly, you always felt hopeful around her and warmed by her beautiful smile and fantastic sense of humor. Thank-you, Old Fudge Lady! Thank-you.

Condolences to the family. Mrs. Bown was an ALLSTAR mom. So kind and understanding whether dealing with a gang of rowdy boys on the Lowell St. rink, at a sleep-over in the big attic on James St., or overloading the little "JiGoMaBe" in Lake Joseph. She is definitely in the Mother Hall of Fame! Glen Johnson
