Dorothy Burns Idzi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 6 to Sep. 8, 2023.
Ventura - Dorothy Idzi always dreamed of being a pilot. While she didn't realize this in her lifetime, on September 5, 2023, she received her golden wings to fly to the heavens.

Dorothy Elizabeth Burns Idzi was born December 9, 1919 and passed away peacefully on September 5, 2023 just three months shy of her 104th birthday. Born in Summerville, Pennsylvania to her parents Mark Jay Burns and Mary Ditty Burns, she was the eldest of four children who all preceded her in death: Jay Burns, Brookville, PA, Clair Burns, Brookville, PA, and M.Berniece Burns Kelley, Vancouver, WA. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Adam Joseph Idzi of Ventura, CA.

Dorothy grew up in Brookville, Pennsylvania where her mother's beautiful piano music and song filled their farmhouse. At age 13, with her mother's life cut short, she went on to live a life for two; hers and the unfinished part of her mother's. Dorothy attended Brookville High School and completed one year of college at Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, PA. After receiving her license at a local beauty college, she opened her own "beauty shop" and worked there until she met and married her husband, Adam Idzi July 13, 1946. Their daughter Deborah was born in New Castle, PA, and then with their eventual move to Ventura, California for Adam's job, their 2nd daughter, Carla, was born.

Dorothy was above all, an exceptional human being, mother, wife and friend to many. She was forward thinking, financially savvy , and a force of positivity. She gave her time generously as a volunteer at Community Memorial Hospital and in her neighborhood helping anyone in need with haircuts, meals, or simple friendly visits. She was an accomplished seamstress and hat maker- a nod to her mother's talent as a millineress. The infamous cheesecake she served at her canasta club was unmatched.

With her long and beautiful life serving as an inspiration for many, she became known as Queen Dorothy. She was in this world to spread goodness and had an impact on all who crossed her path. She lived gracefully and passed away gracefully - healthy and determined all the way to the end. We are thankful to her two caregivers, Lily May Martinelli and Mary Young who allowed her to stay in her home as she wished.

Dorothy is survived by her loving daughters, Deborah Anne Idzi of Santa Barbara and Carla Leslie Labat of Santa Barbara. Both daughters moved to Santa Barbara to be near their dear mother for her final years. Additionally, she leaves behind her adoring son-in-law, Alain Jean-Pierre Labat of Santa Barbara and her doting granddaughter Camille Katherine Labat and great-grandson Joseph Pierre Labat of San Mateo, CA.

Please join us in your hearts as we honor her with goodness in our lives going forward.

At her request, a private family gathering will be held to scatter her ashes at sea.

The Idzi home and waving to either Mr or Mrs Idzi as I passed by has always been part of my Ventura life. What an extraOrdinary woman to have known and my most sincere condolences to Dorothy's loved ones and those who cared for her. I grew up around the corner... and I remember the first time I met Mrs Idzi properly. I walked over to one of Carla's early years birthday parties wearing a proper fluffy party dress. I was surprised we lived in the same house! Same floorplan. There was a HUGE poodle. "Dino." Mrs Idzi was so tall. So beautiful and everything in the house looked like mom's magazines. Beautiful inside and out. My friendship with Carla and the Idzi family of our Ventura neighborhood is Golden. I am so glad to have known the richness of the Light named Dorothy Idzi in even this small way. What a Joy!

My fullest condolences to her loving family who honor her goodness in their lives.
I saw Dorothy when she visited Carla and Alain in the Bay Area. Her obituary explains her beautifully as well as how much positive influence she had on so many. An alive spirit like hers is uniquely inspiring and how perfect that she died with that flame still brightly burning. I salute you, Dorothy! Wonderful to know that we´ll meet in Heaven.

Dorothy is the kindest , appreciative , considerate person ever . I always tell her that she is my favorite 100 year old Lady and she would giggle like a child, last year, when Dorothy was much stronger , we would go to the Ventura Harbor, or the Marina and have lunch on Saturdays and or Sundays , and Dorothy just loves the ambience , and the sunshine , And the friendly people , and the servers , and they would complement her saying she doesn´t look like any older than 90 years old . She was very sharp , and dignified till the very end.I will miss her much , I was a joy , and a Privilege to have known , and worked for her , and I also know that she is now at Peace and very happy to be Home with Our Good Lord , and reunited with her dear husband , and her ever Beloved mom...,,Rest easy, my dearest
Dorothy., " May flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest."
