Dorothy GOOS Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Jan. 2 to Jan. 13, 2016.
Dorothy Goos
January 3, 1930 - December 28, 2015
Dorothy Goos, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away in Saskatoon, SK on December 28, 2015. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Ernst and Elisabeth (nee Ruccius) Goos; four brothers, Johannes, Fred, Carl, and John. She is survived by her sisters Louise Goos, Flora (Bernie) Pregler, and Margareth (Ken) Peterson; and her brothers Walter (Marion) Goos and Victor (Faye) Goos; her sisters-in-law, Vivian Goos, Betty Goos, Kathy Senn; and numerous nephews and nieces. Dorothy was born in Edmonton, Alberta, but moved to North Dakota with her family when she was just an infant. She completed high school in Bathgate, ND. With a Master's degree in Social Work, she joined Lutheran Social Services in Illinois as a caseworker at Edison Park Home in 1960, working with LSSI in various positions until her retirement in 1995. Dorothy broke the proverbial "glass ceiling" when appointed LSSI's first female Vice-President and also in her volunteer capacity when she was elected Vice Chairman of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and when she was the first woman to serve on the Board of Directors of Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Theological Seminary Saskatoon, LutherCare Foundation in Saskatoon, the Alzheimer Society, or a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 16, at 1:30 p.m. in the 3rd floor auditorium of Luther Special Care Home (1212 Osler Street) with Rev. Heather Anderson and Rev. Marilyn Fowlie-Neufeld presiding. Interment will take place before the service at 10:30 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery.
