Dorothy May Hastie

Dorothy May Wynn was born on May 29, 1930, in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Christina Mary Hunter Wynn (née Smith) and John Turnbull Wynn, the elder sister of Joan, Marjory and Jean. During the war, the girls were evacuated to a smaller town. Little Marjory was killed in a tragic accident.
To help support the family as the war ended, Dorothy left school at 14, went to work, and received some training as a photographer. She eventually landed a civil service position at Register House in Edinburgh.
She met Andrew Hastie in 1951 at public skating after being introduced by a friend. They were married in 1953. In 1956, Christine Ann was born, and the family emigrated to Toronto, Canada, in 1958. In 1960, Dorothy had a second daughter, Joanne.
After many moves, the family bought a home in Malton (now Mississauga) along with Andrew's bother, James, a WWII veteran, who died in 2010. Dorothy worked at the Hilton Hotel as head cashier for many years, outing a few con artists, serving many a rock star, and tapping former PM John Turner on the derrière to prove a point about his treatment of women.
A woman of many interests and talents, she was always busy sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, gardening organically, preparing healthy meals, or going camping and birding. This creative, hard-working, funny, sharp-witted, independent, naturally skeptical, bright woman was loved by all who knew her.
