Dorothy Hedrick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2025.
Fort worth - 1935 - 2025

Dorothy Lee (Sorrels) Hedrick passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy earned her teaching degree from the University of Kansas, where she met Charles Hedrick. Their romance began on a blind date arranged by her sorority sister and his fraternity brother, and it was love at first sight. The two were married on June 4, 1957, in the University Chapel. Shortly after graduation, they moved to Abilene, Texas, where Charles was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force, and Dorothy began her career teaching grade school.

Their journey took them next to Massillon, Ohio, where they welcomed their two daughters, Cynthia and Nancy. In 1966, the family relocated to Erie, Pennsylvania, where Dorothy and Charles raised their girls, creating a home filled with love, laughter and chocolate chip cookies. After retiring in 1996, they enjoyed their golden years in St. Petersburg, Florida, while spending summers in Clymer, New York.

Dorothy and Charles were avid golfers and passionate travelers. More than anything, Dorothy cherished time spent with her grandchildren, creating lifelong memories through trips to New Jersey and Texas and family gatherings at their homes in Florida and Peek'n Peak.

Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Charles Hedrick; her daughters, Cyndi Norman (Alan) and Nancy Van Istendal (Glen); her grandchildren, Jennifer Van Istendal McHenry (Kyle), Alexandra Norman Fiorentino (Tyler), Amanda Norman, and Matthew Van Istendal.

Dorothy was laid to rest in Wickenburg, Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's honor to CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse) 1019 Arlington Avenue N, St. Petersburg, Florida 33705 www.casapinellas.org 501(c )(3)Tax id 59-2114359.

John and I were so very sorry to hear of Dorothy's death. She was one of the first people to welcome us to the St Petersburg Country Club more than 20 years ago. A very lovely lady. Our commiserations to Chuck and family.

Dear Chuck and family-- the Amicos wish to express our sympathy at Dorothy's passing. She was a lovely person, a fun golf partner, and a most gracious lady. We still attend the Easter Cantata at Maximo Presbyterian Church. We are so glad you invited us to attend with you. Dorothy had a wonderful life, indeed.
With sincere condolences, Ted & Cheryl
