Dorothy Vogel Jakes passed away on March 15, 1973, in Bradenton, Florida. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 30, 1906, to Charles and Anna Roos Vogel. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY with brother Charles and sister Marion Vogel Demarest. She went to secretarial school before working in New York for the Hellman Company. She was hired by the A.C.Horn Paint Company in NY, where she met her future husband, Frank Jakes. They married in 1931. Frank lost his sight in 1939, and Dorothy became his assistant, so he was able to continue his executive position with the company. They lived in Merrick, NY where they raised their daughter Janice. They were married for 42 years, living on Long Island before retiring to Florida.

She is survived by daughter Janice Jakes Kunz, of New Mexico, and grandchildren Kathlynn Kunz Kogler of New Jersey, John Kunz of California, and Robin Kunz of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and grandchildren Sebastian Kogler of New Jersey, and Sydney and Alex Kunz of California.
