Dorothy McGoff

Dorothy Joann Burns McGoff passed away on February 8, 2025, at the age of 92 in Decatur, Georgia. She was born on January 18, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dorothy spent her early years in St. Louis with her mother and sisters, while also cherishing time on her grandparents' farm in DeSoto, Missouri. From a young age, she dreamed of having a large family, a dream she fulfilled after meeting her husband, Charlie, at a St. Louis swimming pool in the summer of 1955. They married 18 months later and built a loving home together, raising eight children as they moved from St. Louis to Memphis and finally settling in Decatur in 1965. For 59 years, they were devoted parishioners of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

Dorothy dedicated her life to caring for her family. With her husband often traveling for work, she managed the household with unwavering devotion, ensuring her children were supported in their education, activities, and everyday needs. She was deeply involved in their schools, sports teams, drill teams, marching bands, and scouting troops. An excellent seamstress, she lovingly crafted dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. She also found joy in gardening, tending not only to her own yard but also to the neighborhood entrance garden.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Charlie; her son Matthew; her granddaughter Colleen; her great-grandson Everett; and her sisters Betty and Mildred. She is survived by her children Mari McGoff Fahrner, Patrick Emmett McGoff, Michael Charles McGoff, Theresa McGoff Colcord, Kathleen McGoff, Erin McGoff Forsyth, and Peggy McGoff Pusateri; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church in Decatur, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Honey Creek Burial Grounds in Conyers, Georgia, at 12:30 p.m.
