Dorothy Muir Mitchell

Dorothy Muir Mitchell, 83, of Hagerstown, passed away, Monday, July 16, 2018, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown. Born September 17, 1934 in Tacoma Park and grew up in Washington Grove, Maryland she was the daughter of the late, Wallace and Dorothy (Troth) Muir. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas L. Mitchell in 2003. Mrs. Mitchell was a graduate of the University of Maryland where she was a member of the theatrical group, The University Players. She was formerly a Frederick High School band parent and booster; past PTA president and a past member of the Woodlands North Board of Governors.

Mrs. Mitchell loved reading, especially mysteries, drawing, working jigsaw puzzles and beating people at scrabble.

She had worked as a title abstractor for Gastley and Stillrich, Attorney's at Law, and later as an administrative assistant for the A.O.P.A., Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, both of Frederick, Md. She was Protestant by faith. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by one daughter, Janice Mitchell of Elizabeth Co.; one son, John W. Mitchell and wife Nancy of Fairplay, Md.; five grandchildren, Kevin, Karyann and Suzanne Mitchell, Mitchell and Dylan Campau and a close family friend, Jeanne Litten and husband, Henry of Hagerstown. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Pastor Sharon Gibson officiating. Burial will be in MSVC, Rocky Gap, Flintstone, Md. at a later date.
