Dorothy Wenger Rice

Dorothy Lucille Wenger Rice, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025. Born in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, Dorothy lived a life dedicated to service and family.

Dorothy graduated from Manchester University in North Manchester, Indiana, and went on to touch the lives of many through her work as a social worker for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. She also shared her passion for learning as an elementary school teacher in DuPage County, Illinois.

A devoted wife and mother, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Emmert Franklin Rice, and her sister, Marion Wenger. She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her children, Dwayne Alan Rice (Sherry Aguado, deceased), Sharon Rice (Fred Galluzzo), and Diane Mikols (James Mikols); her granddaughter, Lauren Rice Eby Clemens (Matthew Clemens); her great-grandchildren, Beatrice Eby Clemens and Arthur Rice Clemens; and her brothers, Clarence Wenger (Carolyn) and Benjamin Wenger (Nancy).

Dorothy spent her later years at Timbercrest Senior Living Community in North Manchester, Indiana, and Beacon Hill Senior Living Community in Lombard, Illinois. She entered into the loving care of Angel's Grace Hospice and Palliative Care seven months prior to her death.

A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held on April 5, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the York Center Church of the Brethren, which she attended for many years. The church address is 1S071 Luther Avenue, Lombard, Illinois, 60148. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Angels for Hospice Charities, 2430 North Central Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647, supporting patients and families.
