Dorothy Stopko Obituary

STOPKO, Dorothy Purks, 86, of Imperial Plaza, formerly of Varina, passed away Friday, January 8, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Stopko. She is survived by two daughters, Pat Edmunds (Jim) and Shirley Griffey (Paul); one sister, Belle Stanley of Sandston; two brothers, Charlie Purks (Dot), of Varina and Wesley Purks (Martha), of Connecticut; three grandchildren, Ashley Edmunds, Sandra Jackson (Gregg) and Michael Schnurman (Kristen); four great-grandchildren, April and Kenny Jackson, and Jacob and Joseph Schnurman; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many good friends at the Plaza. She will be remembered for her kindness and the joy that she brought to all around her. She worked in finance and retired from United Virginia Bank. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 11, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St John's Catholic Church in Highland Springs, 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 12. Interment at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
