Dorothy Thomas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 28, 2025.
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother left us for her heavenly home on June 10,2025, two weeks after her 100th birthday.

She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years Carroll B. Thomas, Jr., parents Walter Allen and Forest Proffitt Miller and step-grandson J. Taylor Black. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn T. Yowell and Cathy T. Black (John), her grandchildren, Alycia A. Yowell-Many (Derrick), J. Brenton Yowell,Jr., M. Andrew Spencer, step-granddaughter Lauren Stevenson (Adam and Declan) and her great granddaughter, Skyler M. Slater-Yowell.

Mom spent her life taking care of her family, going on fun family vacations, and working in the medical assistant field until she was 84. Dorothy also loved to dance and would do so whenever she could. She was known as "Punkie" by family and close friends. During WWII, she contributed time to the local USO.

Dot was an avid dog lover and donated to the local SPCA yearly. Dot was a long time member of the First Baptist Church until it was destroyed by fire. In later years she found a home at Jefferson Park Baptist.

We would like to thank the wonderful nurses and aides at Charlottesville Health and Rehabilitation Center for all the care given to Mom during her stay there.

There will be a graveside service on October 18th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in Monticello Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations to the local SPCA would be appreciated.
