Dorothy S. "Dottie" Vassar

I still think of Dottie every day when I walk into the rink to coach. I can can still hear her voice in the rink. She was an important part of my childhood, my life. Without her, without the club, I would not be who I am today. And for that I am eternally grateful. Thank you Dottie

Thinking of Dottie thru out the year, I can still hear her voice at the rink... she will always be missed.

Dottie was a very wonderful, caring person. I have known Dottie since I was seven when I first started skating at JMC arena. She was always there to help me with my individual and synchronized skating. Even when my family moved away from Erie, she always kept in touch even if it was only at Christmas time. Dottie was an such an inspiration to so many in the WFSC and beyond. Her laughter, smile, and love of life was infectious. Her dedication to the art and sport of figure skating in Erie will always be remembered.We enjoyed our many years with the club and all of the shows.

Dottie was such a wonderful and inspiring woman! I had the pleasure of knowing her ever since I started skating at the Westminster Skating Club when I was 7 years old. She was always there to support me and encourage me and offer a helping hand. She had such a love and passion for skating. She was amazing in every way, and I know all the great memories of her will always remain in our hearts. She will be missed dearly, but she has definitely impacted the lives of many in such a great way. We love you forever Dottie! Thinking of your family with love and sympathy at this sad time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Reggie and all of Dottie's family. We are sure she will be missed by WFSC and the figure skating world.

What an inspiration Dottie was to the Erie Community and the figure skating community. She had done so much for so many people and and for my daughter Maria. We will miss you , Dottie. Our hearts have been heavy over these last few days and keeping that in mind, we think of all of the good memories that Dottie has left us with. My deepest sympathy on your loss. Mrs. Vassar was the person who started my ice skating years. First on the pond on Westminister and then at the rink. It was such a pleasure to see her happy, smiling face and continued involvement with ice skating over the years. I loved her and will miss her.

I had the opportunity to play golf with Dottie 3 years ago what an impressive women. My sympathy to the family.

I remember being hesitant to always skate away from the wall, and i remember dottie offering her hand out to me to support me. Maybe thats what encourages me to take that jump or go for that spin now, but all i know is, Dottie, you are very missed.

What a wonderful lady Dottie was and this world has suffered a great loss. My girls had the opportunity to meet Dorothy while skating at Westminster and I will never forget her so full of life and her spirit not to be matched. I especially will remember when she visited us at my daughters funeral with a video of my precious daughter Lisa and her sisters Kelly & Melanie that we somehow never picked up one year. She took the time to be sure we got it and pay her respects to our beautiful daughter that she had only encountered for a few years many many years ago. And remember her she did and well. She touched my heart then and still does to this day. She will never be forgotten and always in our families hearts for her compassion. My condolences on your mom's passing. She was a wonderful woman who tired desperately to teach me to ice skate on the pond by your home. Alas I was as coordinated as an elephant on the skates and gave up. I know that ice skating was her love by her dedication to the Wesmtinster Club. Please know that you are in my thoughts & prayers.

Dottie was the person who founded the skating club in Erie and dedicated her time to the fullfillment of helping people, young and old, share in the joy of skating - Thank you Dottie, for skating has lead myself and my children on a wonderful journey!

Dottie Vassar is one of those people you never forget because she touches your heart forever. I skated with the Westminster FSC in the late 70's & 80's. She was an inspiration to me because of her love of the sport, of the Club and of the people involved. It was always comforting to see her smiling face. You knew she was proud of you no matter if you were doing a spiral or a double jump. She is what skating is all about. God Bless her. She will be forever missed.

I will always remember Dottie as a sweet and wonderful person. I enjoyed many years golfing with her and her becoming a member of the EDWGA Hall of Fame. She will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. What do you say when you lose someone as wonderful as Dottie? I have known Dottie most of my life, she was like family to me. Because of her, because of the Westminster FSC, I have been able to achieve so much and watch generations of others do the same. It broke my heart the first year that she DID'NT skate in the Westminster Show, because for as long as I remember she always had. I feel honored that the last performance she participated in was the the " Family" number that I choreographed. I remember, Barbara, that the moment you and your kids stepped on the ice we all forgot about the choreography, just to see the look on Dotties face when you suprised her! There wasn't a dry eye on the ice!
Please take comfort in knowing she meant so much to so many, and will never be forgotten.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Dottie's passing. I sincerely hope the many wonderful memories you both have of her will comfort you in this difficult time. She touched so many lives through her inspiration and encouragement, mine included, in the many activities she was involved with...especially skating. My prayers are with you.

I skated at the Westminister Club from when I was three in 1973 until I was 12. Mrs. Vassar always had a beautiful smile and warm way. I can still, honestly, hear her voice. Such a beautiful person. My prayers are with you.

I was always inspired by Dottie. She was my partner in the adult portion of the annual March show about 20 years ago. I still remember when she and I danced a waltz and how she could flow through the moves!

We know that this is a difficult time for you. Please know that our thoughts are with you even though we cannot be there. We will all miss her so much.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. Dottie was such an influential & inspirational person to those she knew. I remember her well as a former WFSC member as a child. She encouraged my passion for figure skating and taught me that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. When I was older and worked at the LPGC, I fondly remember serving Dottie after the Tuesday Women's outings. She touched many lives and will sadly be missed.
