Douglas Blackmon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2025.
Douglas "Doug" Craig Blackmon, 76, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away at home on August 16, 2025, surrounded by his three loving children after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Macon, Georgia to Mary (Martin) Blackmon and LC Blackmon on August 19, 1948. He attended high school at Berry College in Rome, Georgia and graduated from Baldwin High School in Milledgeville, Georgia in 1966. He went on to attend both the University of Georgia and Georgia Institute of Technology before graduating from Southern Technical Institute in 1973 with a bachelor's in civil engineering technology.

After gaining experience working in civil engineering and the wastewater industry, Doug co-founded the TDH Company in 2000, which he built from the ground up. He was deeply dedicated to his work and ran his business with integrity and purpose until his retirement in 2017.

A proud Georgian through and through, Doug carried with him a deep love for his Southern roots and his family. He was renowned for his sharp wit, his fastidiousness, and a knack for telling it like it is. Doug could always be relied on to provide (somewhat) sage advice, an off-color joke, or a memorable one-liner or "Dougism." When he wasn't cheering on the Dawgs, Doug could be found bass fishing on Lake Lanier, enjoying time outdoors playing golf or tennis, or spending an afternoon at the shooting range.

Doug leaves behind a family of whom he was very proud and loved unconditionally. He is survived by his children, Mandy, Mary Payton, and Davis; his grand-dogs, Zappa and Otis; his sister, JoAnn Carter (Allen); his nieces and nephews, Amy Smith, Jeff Carter, Donna, Martha Sue and Banks Howell; and his dearest friends, all of whom can attest to his tenacity, wit, and charm. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Martha Louise Howell.

He was a damn good Dawg and will be deeply missed. Doug and his family are deeply grateful for his healthcare team at Georgia Cancer Specialists and the wonderful caretakers who helped in his final days. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Chattahoochee Riverkeeper to honor Doug's memory.
