Douglas Brunton Obituary

Published by Nanaimo Daily News from Apr. 30 to May 2, 2015.
BRUNTON, Douglas Robert November 3, 1935 - April 23, 2015 Passed away with joyful anticipation of Heaven. He was surrounded by his family and friends in his final days as he was throughout his life. "Dougie" is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Inga Margaret. He was predeceased by his son Vaughn and is lovingly remembered by son Mark, daughters Shirley, Brenda and Donna, brother Elmer(Louise) and sister Gail Markowski. Doug and Inga's life included families and friends they made along the way. Doug will be missed by many. Raised in a family of 13 children Doug was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He always had warm memories of his PA home. Doug moved to Prince Rupert in 1955 and worked at Skeena Cellulose as a machinist for 42 years. Doug was grateful the Mill provided him the opportunity to travel and to serve in missionary work in his later years. From the years in Prince Rupert Doug and Inga have been blessed with many faithful and supportive friends. Rupertites understand the lifelong Prince Rupert connection. Doug moved to Nanaimo with Inga in 1999. Doug's joy, kindness and love of life drew many more friends to his side. Doug loved to travel. He had adventures in Northern Ireland, England, Europe, Hawaii, Fiji, Tahiti, Israel, Africa and Mexico. He loved to drive and put on many miles between Prince Rupert, Vancouver Island, Prince Albert and nearly every state in the USA. A friend joked that "Doug is the guy who goes to Prince Albert via Arizona." Doug loved sports. Watching Doug play hockey his sister called his skating "poetry in motion". Doug went to Major League Umpire and Referee Schools to help him do his best on the field and on the ice. He loved curling and connecting with his friends at the rink. But Doug's greatest joy in life was serving his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ with Inga at his side. The young people in the Prince Rupert Fellowship Baptist Youth Group, his boys at the Nanaimo Correctional Centre and his "Mexican familia" in poverty stricken areas of Puerto Vallarta filled his heart with love. Doug will always be remembered for his radiant smile. "To do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with his God (Micah 6:8 ) was Doug's mission right up until the final moments when he was called home to the arms of Christ. We are going to miss you so much Doug! A Celebration of Life will be held at Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church, 550 Pym Street at 2 P.M. on Monday, May 4th, 2015.
