BURKE, Douglas James
June 13, 1940 to April 29, 2018
Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Doug was born in Beamsville to the late John and Marguerite Burke. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sandra, daughters Shelby (Doug), Christina, Diana (Jay), granddaughters Kira, Kaylin, Madison, Cali, sister Linda Holder (Colin), late brother Brian Burke (Melissa). Doug will also be missed by his nephews Chris (Michelle), their children Aiden and Chase, Brent and Deryk. Doug retired after 44 years of service from General Motors as Director of Human Resource Management for G.M. Canada. Doug was actively involved in the community. He was on the board of Community Living 3 years; compensation officer for L.L.R.A. Waste 2 years; a member of the Economic Development Advisor Committee for municipality of Port Hope; a board member of the Firefighters Museum; a coach for the Business Success Program 2 years; Rotary member for 6 years; a board member for The All Canadian Jazz Festival 3 years; United Way 1 year; and worked for the Salvation Army for 8 years. organizing volunteers for the kettle program. Special thank you to Josh Legere and his team of caring nurses who made it possible to care for Doug at home. Also, Dr. Kim Torok whose compassion, daily phone calls and home visits greatly helped our family through these times. As per Doug's wishes a donation will be made to the Lewy Body Foundation for research in lieu of a funeral. The family will have a celebration of life at a later date.

Hi Aunt Sandy,

I am sorry to have heard this news. While I only met him a few times, he struck me as a decent, strong and silent type. I could tell that he really loved you.
