Douglas Fisher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 31, 2025.
Douglas Alan Fisher, born on June 25, 1968, in Burien, Washington, passed away on January 24, 2025, in Grass Valley, California.

Douglas was the beloved son of Virginia Gaulter and Larry Fisher and grew up alongside his brother, Eric Fisher. He was a proud father to his three daughters: Kaylin, Elizabeth, and Sarah Fisher.

Douglas grew up in Castro Valley, California, and graduated from Castro Valley High School in 1986. A dedicated serviceman, he served in the United States Navy from 1987 to 1996. His years of service reflected his commitment to his country and left a lasting impact on those who served alongside him. He earned several medals and commendations during his service, including a National Defense Service Medal and the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star.

Living up to his name, Douglas was an avid fisher -- a passion that came from his mom. Douglas could also be found on a given weekend reading a thick fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, or horror novel. Douglas was a thrill seeker; he was always trying to get his family to ride the roller coaster with him at Disneyland or watch the latest Marvel movie in theaters. Above all, Douglas was known for his curiosity and love of being active outdoors. Douglas liked to ski, play team sports, and swim throughout all of California, from San Diego to Lake Shasta. Many close friends and family love the story of Douglas's Navy swim test that he completed entirely underwater, which placed him on the Helicopter Search and Rescue team. His passion for activity allowed Douglas to connect with his kids in coaching basketball and soccer for many years. Douglas will be remembered for his giggly sense of humor and reserved kindness that lifted tension from any room. He was incredibly intelligent and generous, and his light spread to everyone he met.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 9th, from 1-4 p.m. at Benicia Community Park to honor Douglas's memory and the legacy he leaves behind. Benicia Community Park is located at 540 Rose Drive, Benicia CA 94510. All are welcome to attend and remember him.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Thanks to Doug, I'll always remember to check if my computer is properly plugged in before concluding that it broke! Doug was like a constant thread weaving through all the changes that took place during my 10 years of working with him. I so much appreciate his dedication to his work and his kindness. I send warm condolences to Doug's family.
