Douglas Forbes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 19, 2024.
Douglas James Forbes, aged 81, of Boulder, Montana, was called to his eternal rest on the 6th of August, 2024. Born to the late James and Leona Putra Forbes on December 16, 1942, in Chinook, Montana, Douglas was a man of strong character and resilience, attributes greatly shaped by his honorable service in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Following his military service, he returned to his home state and embarked on a long and dedicated career with the Glacier County Road Department. Douglas retired after many years of faithful service, thereafter indulging his love for travel and adventure, journeying from the icy frontiers of Alaska to the sun-kissed deserts of Arizona, before making his home in Boulder.

An avid outdoorsman, Douglas found solace in the serene landscapes of nature where he pursued his passion for hunting and the challenge of fishing for King salmon in the Alaskan wilderness. These pursuits brought him not just leisure but a profound connection to the natural world.

Douglas was educated in Whitefish, Montana, and carried with him the lessons and friendships from his formative years throughout his life. His steadfast work ethic and generous spirit were hallmarks of a life well-lived.

Predeceased by his brother Garry Ray Forbes, Douglas's memory is cherished by his surviving brother, Gene Forbes and sister-in-law, Donna; his nephew, Kevin Forbes and wife Heidi; his niece, Lacey Trahan and husband Richard; along with his beloved great-nephews and nieces, Sheyanne and Zachary Frederick, Chaz Chauvin, and Cody and Morgan Berg, as well as Kolter Forbes.

In respect of Douglas's own directives, there will be no formal services. To honor his memory and lifelong commitment to service, contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), a cause close to his heart.

Douglas's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the community for their support during this time of mourning. His legacy of integrity, duty, and love for the great outdoors will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.

I have known Doug for several years thru the East Slope Back Country Horsemen packing horses and mules and working on Forest Service trails. Later, after his returns from AZ in the spring and to his home in Boulder, we kept in loose contact while he lived there and with his many VA health procedures. I just tried to call him today learning that his service had been terminated. Doing a search for his name I found his obituary.
Having lost my wife and several other friends this year it was equally disappointing to learn of his passing. Hope all is well with his family. He often talked of storing things with some and passing on other valued assets. Wish the best to you all.
