I got this tattoo done a year after you left for Olympus. It's on my left side rib cage. You will be gone 13 years one my 54th birthday but you will always be by my side just like we were for many many years. 2012 I got married to the most amazing woman on earth. She wanted to get married on 9-30-2012 in your honor but the church wouldn't marry us on a Sunday. She didn't even know you but she knew how much you meant to me. Your dad was My Best Man because you couldn't be there. I love you, til we meet again.

I was friends with Doug since Junior High. My brother Mike and him were also friends. The one thing that I miss about him is the way he could always make you smile even when you were having the worst day. And sometimes if its a really bad day I'll think about Doug and smile. Miss you Doug

Dear daddy,
This is now 2016. It has been 9 years since you have been gone. I'm now 12, I wish you were here. The saddest part is that out of anyone on this Earth it had to be my loving daddy. My mommy, sister, and me are all doing ok. But if you were still here it would be the best life possible. You left us way too early. I will see you soon in the new system (paradise). I love you so much. I think of you every single day. You have been missed more than you could even think.
Although I don't remember my daddy, I have small memories. I see videos and I wish so badly I could relive them. I wish you could see me grow up and become the funny, loving, friendly person you would want me too be. You will always be in my prayers to Jehovah. Rest in peace daddy.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH DADDY!!
She fell off the back of my Truck, came up to me and said "Owe Daddy" and did not shed one Tear, She is a Franco!

Dougie Boy, Lets see the last time we were together was in Las Vegas, you came to see and stay for Matellica concert, your favorite Band, we spent time together. I remember our saying " The Birds ". When you were little maybe 5-6, I use to tell if you were bad "The Bird would come and peck your eyes out" And at times in your life when you were thinking about maybe making a sorta bad decision, you would look at me and say "The Birds? " and I would say yes " The birds will come". Sometimes we would meet, and you would say " What about the Birds" and I would say yes the birds, noone knows about the birds but me and Gino and you. Everytime I see any Birds in Flight I think of my sweet Babbiest brother. Now I am an Old man. Vincent J. Franco III.

Doug,
Side up to the bar at Mexico Lindo because the boys are all there ..I came in for some food, but a greater smile when I saw you welcoming me with open arms ..margarita with a free refill, best margarita I have had yet, too ..think it was so good because it was a typical day and everyone was kicking it at the new bar ..I've never been to Cabo, but Doug, you made anywhere be Cabo [tears] ..we bbq'd with our girlfriend/boyfriend a few times. ..You, the master bbq man. You mean the kind of friend to people that they need ..a true responder to hearts. Always have a smile for Doug. Never forget what it means to have a friend in you. Met up with my future spouse at your house. I know, we all had our doubts that it could work out, but we tried to make for the best. See you upstairs, but until then ..stay with us, friend. Sometimes we get out of bounds. God Bless your legacy, Doug !!

A short time to be here and a long time be gone. It's been two years, but I can still hear your voice saying " sure you can". I remember your laughter, that sly smile, and that twinkle in your eye. The times we worked with Gino and would come home tired, but not from the job, but from all the laughter. And how you loved your carne asada burrito from the lunch truck. I miss my friend, but you will always be in my thoughts and in my heart. You are and always will be one of the good ones.

As the saying goes, a heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others. Doug, you are deeply loved and will be sorely missed. A lot of good times and great memories.
The days we spent working with Gino, the quick smile and your trademark reply," sure we can." You were always crackling with energy. I'll always remember the time @ Joanies, when we played pool and ran the jukebox all night long. (People actually thanked us, it was a magical night indeed.)
You are a great friend and will always be in my thoughts. The best compliment I could ever give anyone is that they were a real hep cat. Doug, you were much more, you were a real good guy. The song is over, and I'm only left with tears.
May The Four Winds Blow You Gently Home
With Love,

Doug touched me in a very personal way, teaching me a lesson in humility and true strength of spirit.
I heard the pride in his voice as he spoke of his duties as an emergency worker, riding a truck and attempting to save lives. I saw a brightness in his eyes and love and gratitude for his family. It was the beginning of an awakening in me that Doug was a special human being.
In the years afterwards, I came to look on Doug as an inspiration. Each time I would see him or leave him, he would give me a warm hug and I always felt better just for having been in his presence. I could tell he genuinely cared for me, and I was gratified. I came to fully understand why everyone cared for him so deeply. He showed me the virtues of compassion and real strength of character.
Doug may be gone in body today, but his spirit will live on forever in his family and in the hearts and minds of all of us who reaped the rewards of knowing him. Although all will miss him, perhaps he had taught his great lesson on this earth. Perhaps he had done enough, and it is for the rest of us to learn and go on.
Rest in peace, Doug. You left a special legacy.

We were intertwined by friends and family and friends of family. Doug always made sure to come say hi to me when I was in town next door to his parents, he introduced me to the love of his life when she was absolutely beautiful and expecting. Our children got to meet as babies. I have always thought the world of Doug, even back when he would show up with the little brothers of the friends I hung out with way back when. Never did he once pass me by without sitting down, talking and laughing with me. Judy, Jim, Gina, Gino, Sherri and Vince you are in my thoughts and prayers. I think about Doug all the time. He will always be missed.

DEATH IS BUT A PASSAGEWAY
When I have left this earthly shore,
I pray you happy be,
For I shall be in pain no more
When I'm beyond the sea.
For death is but a passageway
And Christ waits at the door,
And I've been longing for the day
When I shall see my Lord.
I do not wish my life to end,
For I have much to do,
Good times to spend with family and friends,
And work to finish, too.
But when it's time to pass that door,
I know I'll have no fear,
I'll be accompanied by my Lord,
Who'll wipe away each tear.
We Christians know we need not fear
How death may come or when,
Our Christ walks with us each step here
And will our souls attend.
So walk with joy through every day;
To death, give not a thought;
Our Christ walks with us each day here,
And our salvation is bought.
If you have come to say goodbye
To this, my earthly shell,
Be glad for me and do not cry
I now in heaven dwell.
And I am safe with Christ my Lord
And in His arms I rest.
My earthly time and life are o'er,
But now my soul is blessed.
For death is but a passageway,
And Christ waits at the door,
And I've been longing for the day
When I shall see my Lord.

Bereft
Precious son, brother, friend----
Who ever thought your life would end
So suddenly one dreadful morn?
Your soul has flown to heaven above
Where you dwell in endless love,
But we are left down here, forlorn.
For we who loved you are now left
With arms and hearts so sore bereft
Of all the love you had to give.
We miss you every single day---
Your smile and all your loving ways---
We wanted you to always live.
Although your life was much too brief
And our hearts are filled with grief,
We're glad we had those precious years.
So we give thanks to God above
For sending you to us with love
And know someday He'll dry our tears.
For you still live, in heaven above,
And watch o'er us in constant love---
A love that never more will end.
And someday we will join you there
When heaven's joys we, too, will share
Forevermore with you, dear friend!

Never Ready to Say Goodbye
We're never ready to say goodbye
To someone we hold dear.
If it were up to us, sweet Doug,
We'd always keep you here.
But God has reasons of His own
And plans we do not know,
And these are always for our good,
Though it may seem not so.
Our arms are empty, and our hearts
Are filled with tears and grief,
For we who loved each day with you,
Now find those days too brief.
Yet if only we could heaven see,
We'd know you're happy there,
And we would never call you back
When such great joy you share.
And so we'll trust you to God's great care
And know some day, once more,
We'll hold you to our hearts again
When we reach heaven's shore.

The man I thought would live all my life,
passed on in the month of September.
His actions and love are in my mind,
as far back as I can remember.
His face and smile stay in my thoughts,
and his voice lingers in my ear.
The voice I thought I would hear all my life,
I heard for the last time so dear.
I remember the gifts he use to give,
I remember his hugs and kisses.
The special gifts I thought I'd get all my life,
won't be under the Tree's no more Christmas'
The man I thought would stay all my life,
suddenly had to leave.
God looked down on this man,
and to Heaven he gave him the key

Brotherhood is a precious bond,
so fragile, yet so strong.
It's nurtured by our deeds, and thoughts,
and soothes when things go wrong.
Brotherhood is companionship:
The joy of sharing fun,
of ball games, fishing and gifts we send,
that keep us on the run!
Brotherhood also, shares the times
when sorrows come our way.
To have a dear brother, who really cares
makes 'gray days' much less gray.
Brotherhood never can be owned,
or chained, or bought, or sold.
It's a special freely-given gift
to treasure, and to hold.
Brotherhood is a lovely gift,
a special gift from God.
To bring us happy memories
as life's long path, we trod.

Just remember,,,,,,,,
Love is the one thing,
death can not take.
Love is the one bond,
that nothing can break.
Love is a cord.
that time can not server...
Yes, love is eternal,
love is forever.

A Rose among the tears I shed
lies quietly on your grave,
And though I'm trying very hard
I feel I am not brave,
For missing you's the hardest thing
my heart has ever known,
And I just want to be with you
instead of here alone.
But now is not the time for me
to go where you have gone,
But in your footsteps I shall walk
until I see the dawn,
For that is where I know that I
shall find your soul to be,
And than the shadow of your grave
will lose it's hold on me.

To all that loved Doug,
I have been honored and blessed to have had Doug in my life for 13 years. I know that is not as long as some of you, but I can say with all my heart that he was one of the best people that I have ever known. He was such a loving person, was so fun to be with, no matter what you were doing. I can't even imagine how it is going to be at the first get together that anyone has when he should be there, but isn't. It will never be the same without him there. He passed on the love of my lifes birthday, and now I know Chuey's birthday will never mean the same for either of us, we will be celebrating his life while at the same time celebrating Doug's life, just in a different sense. It will effect both of us because Doug has always meant so much to both of us. Doug has touched so many lifes that he will never be forgotten, he will always be with us at every function, in every one of our hearts. And it is up to all of us to help Yvonne let Riley know what a wonderful man her daddy was and to keep his memory alive because Riley was not as fortunate as the rest of us to have as many years with him as we did. Let us keep his memory alive in all of us and in his daughter, let us tell her of what a wonderful man he was and how much he loved her, her mother and her sister. Never stop talking about Doug! Keep him alive for her and all of us. I will miss you Doug, you will always be in my heart and in my thoughts. Love you Dougie.

This is some of the stuff Doug loved: Being a dad, VH1 Classic, cooking, working for his fam bam, Sugar Pie & Frankie Bones, Larry David, old School Ice Cube, Poker, the swimming pool & BBQ, supporting his family, VFW, Son's of Italy on Thurs., Vince's Spaghetti, being part of the Fire Crew, Buca De Pepos, his friends, his family, Grateful Dead, Raegan, Baby Riley, and he looooooooved YVONNE
This is why we love Doug:
Because all of the above, he never said anything bad about anybody(except this one time but we won't say about who, but really just that one time) he loved everyone, he helped us rearrange our furniture many times, he taught Lanee how to swim when she forgot, he was willing to listen about a future promise w/ an open heart, he took care of his family, he was going to be a great brother-in-law, and he looooooooved YVONNE
He fought cancer like a champ and he won, cancer isn't why he's not here, he's a cancer survivor!
We'll miss Doug
