I will always miss Doug. He was a great friend, I played in many bridge tournaments with him all around the world, I visited his cottage on several occasions, stayed at his home many times. We made it to the finals of the world bridge championships in 1991, the Bermuda Bowl ... final 16 teams in the world, I was playing with the late Michael Betts, Ed Zaluski (Doug's partner) and Dave Willis/John Valiant, the third pair of our team.
RIP Doug
hope to see you in another place

Tonight I decided to google my old friend and employer, Doug, and was saddened to hear that he had died. I worked as his first medical secretary when he moved to Ottawa in 1977. And i was there until I moved to Vancouver in 1980. We had a great working relationship and always a good laugh together. God bless, Doug. You are in a good place now.

Beth: I was so sorry to hear of your brother's death. I remember Doug with such fondness - the shared Christmas dinners, wonderful times at your cottage, and later our get-togethers in Arnprior. Time takes us in different directions, yet we feel such a sense of loss whe someone who plays such an important part of our past leaves us. My deepest sympathies go out to you Beth.

Doug was a good friend to me through all our years at TCS - the details of which I've managed to forget. What I remember is his strength and leadership - he was a kind of role model, more than just a friend. The summer we graduated TCS, he took me up in a Piper Cub - flying over Ottawa's west end and zig-zagging around the Gatineau. He banked hard so my door was facing the ground - "Open it!" he shouted, so I did. Wow, what a feeling! That same summer we did a 3 or 4 day canoe trip in Algonquin - 16 hours of heavy rain in a canvas pup tent: there's a test of friendship. Your Doug was a great guy. My condolences to you all.

Beth - Although we drifted apart Doug and I were the best of friends all through TCS and Queens. An exceptional man. Do you remember when we borrowed your Mum's Vauxhall to drive to Mexico and back? Happy times - and Doug had more adventures than most. My thoughts are with you and Doug's family.

Dear Beth and the rest of the family,
My sister Betty in Ottawa sent Doug's obituary. It made me think back of our great friendship in Temiscaming when we were kids, at the cottage, fishing and hunting and playing sports in the back lanes. Sorry to hear about Doug's passing at such as young age.
My sincere condolences.
Ewart

To Christine and Dr. Heron's family,
My heartfelt condolences to all on Dr. Heron's passing.
I have fond memories of working with him in the operating room at the Grace Hospital many years ago when he introduced ENT surgery. He was a good surgeon as well as a nice human being. His love for bridge playing at an advanced level was most evident. He will be missed.

Beth, Anne, Stacy, Alex, Tina and Christine . I am so very sad hearing the news about Doug's passing. It has been such a long time and Douglas was always in my heart . Douglas lived his life every day the best he could and loved his family and friends. I came back from playing golf today when I received the sad news, in my bag, the putter and sand wedge he gave me so many years ago. He would have liked a day like this.
Douglas will be missed, my sincere condolences Christine.

Chris, My prayers and heart go out to you and your family. I didn't know Doug in his prime but appreciate knowing him the short time we did for his love of music, fun and sense of humour.
You both brought pleasure to Don and me and I have many good memories for consolation.
