I always listened to your show, even though I was much younger than you. You made me laugh and smile. I just out of the blue thought about you today and I was so sorry to find out that you left us. My mum died in April the same year, it was she that turned me on to you. I will never forget how many laughs you gave me. I love you Uncle Dougie.

Good-bye, Doug. Thank you for the decades of laughter and tears. Although you didn't graduate from college, I would like dedicate my senior project at Allegheny College to you. (Among others, of course.) Your influence, besides that of my parents, friends, and teachers, profoundly affected my life. Certainly your presence will be felt everyday I work on it.
Of all the things I could say, a simple thank you and requiescat in pace sum my feelings best. Furthermore, I pray eternity is as inviting for you as your radio show was for me in this life.
Finally, my parting wish is "be the Good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise," Doug. I'll see you soon.

Doug, so miss your laugh. You are and were, "What was and is no more." You could tell a story like none other and make it funny even if it wasn't. May the angels carry thee to thy rest..RIP

Doug was a lot like George Baily in "It's A Wonderful Life"...he probably never realized how many lives he brightened up every day.
He had the "magical" ability to draw you in and keep you like the great ones in broadcasting could....sad that I doubt we shall ever see the likes of him again.
Glad and proud he called Pittsburgh home...bye old friend

I believe Doug came from the same area of New Jersey as Jack Nicholson and Bruce Sprigsteen. How is that for a cradle of unique personalities.
Some of the many things I heard on Doug's show that I can't get anywhere else on radio:
A likable Cyril Wecht
A Lee Strasberg impersonation
Funny Secret Service stories
Grouch Marx in the 21st Century
Music from Victory at Sea
Moses among the sheep
The void must be filled.

No matter the station, time of day or format, Uncle Dougie would knock 'em dead. He could speak about any subject with intelligence and ease, all the while make it entertaining. For 3 hours a day, he pulled you into his world, made you a friend, made you laugh, cry and laugh again. He was an original in a day and age when those types are far and few between. Doug is apart of Pittsburgh and we are proud to call him one of our own. In heaven I can just hear Uncle Dougie say, "Let me hear that band!"

Like many of Doug's radio friends, I lost interest in talk radio when he left. Always wondered why he never worked at any station here-he definitely would have had a huge following. Hope he knows how popular he was.

You are now in a new place. Laurence Gaines is smiling and laughing. He is watching you, shaking your head and saying, "Wow! What a Ride!".
I have had a few personal interactions with you, all on the phone, via your radio show. We would have enjoyed the dialogue of conversation, in person. Trust me.....
Tell Groucho that I miss him too.......

I would always look forward to listening to Doug as I worked. He made all those years interesting, entertaining and fun. Because he gave so much of himself to his audience, I felt he was a friend. I have missed him since he went off the air and kept hoping he would come back. I have not enjoyed talk radio without him.I would love it if they could put all his shows on, I would listen to them all over again. He was the very best. Ann Samuel Pgh Pa.

I was so saddened to hear of Uncle Dougie's passing. I would scan the airwaves in hopes of hearing him again. I first heard him in 1988 at 1250 am and never missed listening to him from that day forward. I've always wanted to meet him because everything he talked about on his show I could relate to. No matter the subject, he always made everything entertaining. I learned a lot from him over the years and always thought he'd be on the radio somewhere. There will never be another like him. Rest in Peace Doug, all of Pittsburgh will miss you.

One of the great talk show hosts of my lifetime. Every interview he asked the very questions I wanted answers to and he made every show an adventure. I still vividly remember many of his drive time shows that had me sitting in the car in front of my house waiting for the commercial so I could go in an catch the rest of the show without missing a moment. His nostaglia shows taught me more about the Godfather than I really need to know. I thank Doug Hoerth for his passion and knowledge.

I was so sorry to hear of Doug's death. He and his excellent show were both missed when he left the airwaves.
Maybe it's just me, but I can almost imagine "Uncle Dougie" wise-cracking from Beyond about the attention he's getting posthumously.

How I have missed his clever banter, his musical knowledge, his political barbs and insightful commentary. He had the most magnetic personality. I hope he knew the love that was out there for him.

I always loved listening to Doug, especially when he & Laurence worked together. They were such a hoot; made it hard to drive 'cause they had me laughing so hard! Rest in peace, Doug, and Laurence, too! Heaven's a better, and funnier, place now!

My husband Joe was a frequent guest on Uncle Dougie's Friday talk show. Joe and Doug became good friends. Many Sunday nights after Doug's broadcast, Joe would meet Doug and they would go to EatNPark. Joe had the gift of being able to talk to anyone about anything. Many Sunday nights while driving back to Pittsburgh from Irwin after visiting family, Joe and I would listen to Doug's oldies broadcast. Joe would usually end up calling Doug to say hi and hence they would confirm their "date" after the show. Unfortunately Joe passed away in 2005. I talked with Doug several times after that. Doug leaving radio was a significant loss. Now Joe and Doug can continue their conversations and have been reunited.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Doug's family and those who were close to him. May God bless his soul.

I have fond memories of Doug during my early nursing career in Pgh. I was a home care nurse covering the Mon Valley and Westmoreland County. Doug was with me daily on those country roads...always entertaining...always educating...always informing "the uninformed" of a "good read." I'm Blessed to have those memories.

To the Godfather of talk radio. Doug, you were "bigger than US Steel"!! You were never "a man among the sheep", You were head and shoulders above the crowd. My love for trivia and The Godfather movies was because of your weekend trivia shows, etc...a class act never to be replaced. Thanks for the memories. Rest in Peace

When we lived in Pittsburgh, we listened to Doug Hoerth on every radio station where he worked. He was truly a fountain of information. We especially loved his Oldies show on WJAS each Sunday night. We moved from Pittsburgh in 2008, but we stay in touch with all the news online. Very sorry to read of Doug's passing. He will be fondly remembered as a legend of radio talk show hosts in our beloved city of Pittsburgh. May God Bless and comfort his cousins, dear friends and "radio family".

I was extremely saddened to hear that Uncle Dougie passed away. I don't think there was a funnier show in town than when he and Laurence were on WTAE. (Rest in Peace, Laurence). I always looked forward to the time spent in my car listening to them. I am sorry that Doug didn't make it back to radio as his shows were always fresh and relevant. I hope that wherever he is in the heavens, he is able to see that so many people loved him and will miss him. God Bless You and Rest in Peace, Uncle Dougie! Pittsburgh will never forget you!

Doug was simply the best. Endless hours of entertainment. He was so very intelligent and witty. He also had a great heart. Radio and the listeners lost out when he no longer was broadcasting. What a true loss. He was one of a kind. May God keep him in His care.

Unc.. I have been gone from my home in Pittsburgh for quite some time. I live in Louisianna. Had to find work. I assumed you were still on the radio. I loved listening to you.. No matter where you worked, sometimes with me growing up close to the Butler county line, it was hard getting WTAE. I used tin foil an my antenna and would go outside in freezing weather in an attempt for a better signal to hear you. You were the greatest. Rest in peace good buddy.
