Douglas Knox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2024.
Douglas Bruce Knox , 70, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away on January 20, 2024 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on March 1, 1953, in Madison, WI. Doug was a loving and kind man who lived in the present and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed.

In his final years, Doug could often be found on the front balcony of his home on Herman Street in Milwaukee watching over the neighborhood. He loved conversing with the squirrels and greeting every dog that passed by. He loved the History Channel, National Geographic magazine, "The Curse of Oak Island", "MASH", WW2 history, and Pall Malls but most of all Carla and his children. He was a devoted fan of the Packers and UW Badger football. He never lost faith that he would discover a groundbreaking idea or scheme to strike it rich. He still might.

Doug is survived by his loving long-term partner and companion, Carla San Filippo, as well as his children and grandchildren: Katie Knox (Dan Dickover), Cecelia, Amii, Simon, and Elsie; Jacob "Jake" Knox (Tara Delgman), Jackson, Joshua, Oliver, and Oscar; Alexander Knox; Meridith Knox (Humberto Lee) and his devoted pup JJ. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Kareen and Susan Weigandt, his brother, Woodard Knox, and the mother of his children Mary K. Knox.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite June "Peggy" (Reetz) Knox, his father, Hallie Hilbert Knox, and his brothers, Jay and Tom.

Throughout his life, Doug was a dedicated and hardworking man. He found joy working in construction and loved building and remodeling. He spent many years working at Neenah Foundry, Arcways, and Appleton Paper.

A party to celebrate Doug's life is planned for this summer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission in his honor. Doug's generous final wish was to donate his body to the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Doug absence will be deeply felt. His fun loving nature and kindness will always be remembered through raucous storytelling and laughter.

For your family, Doug,
It has been a long time since Doug and I went through high school together in Whitewater, WI. We played football together, worked at the local foundry together, built metal farm building's together. We shared a lot of time together back in the day!

Doug was a large boy and if you got him fired up. he was quite the athlete! It took me awhile to realize that he was just a gentle giant, a teddy bear of a man.

I'm glad he got to spend all his years with his family and got to enjoy a good life!
And I'm sure anyone who knew him would say he was a real friend!

Rest in peace old friend and will see you on the other side!

I will always remember the day I met Doug. I was visiting his oldest daughter, Katie. The two of them taught me to play cribbage. When I told him Katie was like a sister, he insisted that I call him "Daddy Doug". I still hear the echos of our laughter that day every time I play a game of cribbage.
