Douglas Mowatt Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Nov. 21, 2008.

MOWATT Douglas Malcolm It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Doug Mowatt, age 49, eldest son of Derek and the late Anne Mowatt, on November 18 at St. Paul's Hospital. He leaves behind his loving wife Maria, son Mitchell, daughter Chantal, sister Fiona, her husband Jim, brother Gregor, his wife Michelle, Derek's wife Valerie, aunt Beth and family and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends, as well as family in Scotland. He worked at Cushman Wakefield LePage for 23 years, becoming an associate vice president, where he forged countless friendships. His warm personality and incredible sense of humour will be missed by all who met him. He was a natural athlete who enjoyed hockey, skiing, hiking, swimming, dancing, golfing and walking his dogs, Amber and Lexy. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the dedicated medical staff at St. Paul's Hospital. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at the Vancouver Club, 915 West Hastings, on Tuesday, November 25 from 4 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation in Doug's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon would be greatly appreciated.

To Doug's family,

Sorry to hear of Doug's passing. Doug and I played hockey together at Hollyburn many years ago and I valued his freindship. Although it has been a long time between meetings I will long remember our frienship.

From our family to yours,

Greg & Brenda Capozzi & family

To Derek, Fiona, Gregor and Doug's family and friends,

So sorry to hear of your loss. I hadn't seen Doug in many, many years, but I will treasure the memories we shared on the ice, on the football field and in our homes at Christmas. Doug and I car-pooled for a year to and from hockey games and practises so we shared a friendship and many formative sports experiences. I'm sorry we lost touch but happy that he's lived a life. Again my condolences and I'm sure he would encourage us all to make our time count because you never know when the final whistle blows.

Take care,

John Mullan

To the Mowatt family,We were very saddened and shocked to hear of Doug's sudden passing; no one should lose a family member that way. We have distant but fond memories of Doug playing around the campsite in OK Falls about 40 years ago! Fishing off a bridge was involved...I know you will support each other - there is a lot of strength there - and with time the pain will lessen. Our love and thoughts are with you. My main memory of Doug was his natual athletic ability. This really bothered me. Well, high school was a long time ago.
May God Bless Dougs family through this tough time.

I'm pretty sure this is the guy that could out-sprint me in Gr 6...West Bay Elementary. Really sorry to hear of his passing. Nice guy, well-liked and a good athlete-- sounds like he didn't change in the last 35+ years. My sincere condolences,

My deepest sympathy and love goes out to the entire Mowatt family during this difficult time. I pray for God's healing and comforting hand to lead you in the days ahead. I am blessed to have been a part of Doug's life as we grew up together. I will always cherish the many great memories of laughter and joy with Doug water skiing in the Okanagan and snow skiing at Whistler.
