So very sorry to hear of Dougs passing . I was out of town when the services were held. Doug was a special person in many ways which all of you already know. He will be missed .Although we did not see each other often he was in my thoughts and prayers on a regular basis. If there is anything I can do just let me know

Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. I have many fond memories of the time we all spent together during my childhood and teenage years. Church, youth choir, beach trips, weddings, shopping trips, giggling marathons with Renae, Doug's beautiful voice and kind spirit, and many, many more memories are a big part of my life. Doug will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

So many fond memories of Doug as a classmate from Brightwood and Rankin all the way through Northeast. We had a lot of classes together over the years and were good friends although we didn't do a good job of staying in touch after high school. My thoughts and prayers are with the family but we know earth's loss is heaven's gain...

Hello,
I'm Crystal... Ed Shelton's Grand-daughter... Unfortunately I haven't seen Doug in a very long time. I know his voice was absolutely AMAZING. My granny Stella always asked him to sing when all of the family would visit her home. He was such a wonderful sweet man. I know he has been sick for a long time & now the Lord has taken away his pain. He's now smiling down on us & rejoicing with our Lord....
Uncle Carl, Aunt Daisy, Jerry & the rest of the family, my Mom Peggy also sends her regrets & wants you all to know you are in her thoughts & prayers. We love you all & are so very sorry for your loss....

I knew Doug from his Cone Mills days and from the youth choir years ago. Doug was a good man with a wondeful heart and voice! I know he is shouting on the hills of glory. May the God of all comfort give encouragement to the entire family. God bless.

To all the family..I am deeply saddened to had heard of Doug's passing. I have many fond memories of Doug as a teenager as I once was in the youth choir at Lebanon. He always found a way to make you smile and laugh and was always a wonderful person. His talent was his voice and I don't think there was ever a song he couldn't sing. I know he his walking in Heaven now,no more pain or sickness. I know he will be missed by many who loved him, but just to know where Doug is means so much and to know that he is not suffering any longer.May God be with Doug's family during this time. He left alot of memories, cherish them each and everyday, and renenber...one day we will see him again. My prayers and thoughts are with the family.

I am deeply sadden at the loss of our earthly friend and brother in Christ. I have such mixed emotions now because although we all miss Doug so badly I am also delighted that he is free from this life where he endured pain and saddness. He is now enjoying his reward for the life he led with us. His heart was loving towards all. He loved his son, Noah and cherished him above most other things in this life. I am so thankful that he had a son. And I am thankful he had Jerry to help him. Please know our prayers are with Jerry and the family. Please call upon me if I can help in anyway. Doug was always there to pray for me and my troubles. My son and I loved visiting with him. We now delight in his reward. We already miss him, but I am confident to be reunited someday. Doug is now singing with the saints in heaven!

I am deeply saddened to hear about Doug. I have many fond memories of him and the experiences we shared from the 8th grade at Rankin Elementary School through high school at Northeast. He was a wonderful person to be around -- great personality, quick to joke and laugh, and of course his singing talent. You could not ask for a better friend and pal. I moved to Florida and unfortunately lost track of him but, occasionally, I'll hear a song or something will happen that reminds me of Doug and I always smile. Heaven's gain is definitely our loss.

Jerry and Family, I am sorry to hear of Doug's passing . i know that his smile will be missed by all of us. I look back on his life from the 1st grade thru high school years from Brightwood untill North East and rember all the great times we have spent. The one thing that remains in my mind is the gift's that God gave him the most powerful was his voice. One that always carried the message of how How great god's love for all of is. He was ment to help people find there way to our Lord in the power of his tremdous voice. I as a friend know how he touched so many ,I was one of thoes he touched. I will miss him but know he is home sing for the Master himself.
May you all have comfort in knowing
God loves us all as he loves hinself.
And most of all the Powerful song he love to Sing How Great Thou Art.
May God be with you and the family.
My Heart goes out to each of you and my love, too

Pastor Carl, Daisy and family, Memories are more precious than gold. We have many from years ago. I have thought so many times about the Sunday afternoons when your family would come to my parents home after the radio broadcast. You were part of our family; a part that we loved and still love dearly. Our loss is surely great but we have the promise to meet Doug again. What a meeting that will be. You are in our thoughts and prayers

Pator Carl and Daisy, and family, I know your dear son Doug, will be missed and I know that you know he is in the arms of his savior having no more pain and he is running and walking the streets of heaven. I know it's going to be hard here on earth without him and there is comfort in knowing you will see him again. We will never forget his wonderful singing voice and his loving and caring attitude. We only knew him for a short time but we know he is with the Lord and we will see him again. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all and we love you. May God comfort you and bless you during this time of loss.

When I was a teenager, I use to sing in the youth choir @ Lebanan. I always remebered Doug because of his beautiful voice. He was a very likable guy. Time sure has past. Just know his family & friends will be in my thoughts and prayers.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

When Doug's wife Gloria used to work at Blue Bell with me, my husband & I started hanging out with Doug & Gloria. We used to have some really great times.

Things change & I lost track of both of them. I am really going to miss both of them.
