Douglas James Wasko

June 4, 1942 - April 16, 2025

After a full life, Doug passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025 at his home. He was born June 4, 1942 to Joseph and Dorothy (Gilmore) Wasko in Oakland, California. Doug attended University of Utah and completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees. While there, he met the love of his life, Sharon Evans. They were married on July 6, 1963 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and together they raised 5 children. Doug taught and coached at a variety of high schools throughout Oregon. Later, he attended Portland State University, earning his Ed Administration credential. Doug then served as principal at Regis High School in Stayton and Monroe Catholic School in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was deeply committed to catholic education and helping others build their faith.

The loves of his life were God, his wife, his family, and his community. Doug never met a stranger and always had time to chat and share stories - he was a charismatic extrovert with a warm smile and genuine laugh! His hobbies included daily scripture study, dancing, reading, golf, bridge and sports of all kinds. He was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and Marriage Encounter (they helped get it established in the Pacific Northwest!).

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry Kaercher, and sister, Kris Griggs. He is survived by his children: Teresa (William) Baumbach; Douglas "Jim" Wasko; John (Shelly) Wasko; Elizabeth (Kolt) Coudare; and Timothy Wasko. He is also survived by brothers: Joseph Wasko Jr.; Michael Wasko; Marvin Kaercher; Ronald Kaercher; Rick Kaercher; sisters: Marie Heath; Florence Ostrander; Margaret Norris; Diana Nichols; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Recitation of Rosary will be Friday, April 25, 2025 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (1077 N 6th Ave, Stayton, OR 97383) followed by Mass at 11:00 am. A celebration of life reception will follow (bright colors are encouraged!).

Contributions can be made to Regis St. Mary Catholic School. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
