Dr. Barrett McKenzie Hunter, age 80, of Jonesboro passed away March 22, 2022. Dr. Hunter served the community for 45 years as the first orthodontist in Clayton County. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro for over forty years, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and usher. Dr. Hunter also served as a dentist in the U.S. Navy. He was survived by his loving wife: Gail Hunter; daughters: Jennifer Hunter of Atlanta and Ashley (Reid) Lawson of Lake Suzy, Florida; brothers: William (Mary Morgan) Hunter of Newport News, Virginia; and Eric (Sandra) Hunter of Advance, North Carolina; grandchildren: Caleb, Hannah, Jonathan, and David Lawson, and William, Philip, and Henry Stith. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 26, 2022 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro with Dr. Mel Blackaby and Rev. Allen Davis officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the church before the service. The burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 28, 2022 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
The family would prefer donations to Southwest Christian Hospice in lieu of flowers. www.swchristiancare.org

Barrett and I were classmates at Wake Forest and at UNC Dental roommates until he and Gail married. He one of the brightest students I have ever known and one of the finest men. You can be sure he is with the Saints in Heaven. Bless you .
