Dr. Charles Daniel Stavely, 64, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023.
Charlie, a devoted man of God, was born on August 29, 1958, to William and Frances Stavely in Kilmichael, MS. After Charlie graduated from Winona High School in 1976, he went on to study chemistry at Delta State. At his beloved Delta State, he played football all four years and cultivated close relationships that lasted a lifetime.
After graduating from Delta State, he pursued and completed his degree in Dentistry from the University of Mississippi. He took special pride in raising his 3 boys to grow into the men that they are today. Charlie leaves behind a legacy through his work with special needs patients. His passion was to help children and adults that were disabled that had dental necessities. He also leaves behind a devoted patient following that provided over 40 years of relationships both professionally and personally. Hunting (with his best friend, Kenny), fishing and watching Ole Miss football were part of Charlie’s favorite pastimes. He also loved traveling. I saw Charlie two weeks ago at Jimmy’s Grill in Molino. We chatted for a few minutes. He told me he was looking forward to retirement. I told him that I would see him again at Jimmy’s. I am saddened to hear of his sudden passing. I am thankful that I knew Charlie. My sincere condolences.

My sincerest condolences to your family . Dr. Stavely & Dr. Johnston took me in as their first dental assistant when they came to Pensacola & opened up their practice. Dr. Stavely was patient, kind and always friendly, even when I would run into him through the years as we moved on. Rest in peace with our Lord Jesus Christ . Much love

I still remember Charlie's first dental mission trip with me to Costa Rica. I will miss the smiles, laughter, and giving spirit Charlie presented to everyone he met.
I remember one incident that occurred at about 10:00 PM when we were finishing up in the clinic in Santa Rosa, Costa Rica. We were supposed to finish at about 4:30. However, the thought of returning to the "Hotel" we were staying in gave everyone pause!
Charlie brought a young girl to me and asked if I could do two fillings for her. He already had her numb but had another patient that need to be seen and she was the last patient of the day. I said I was too tired to do both but would do one of the fillings. Charlie left and the young patient was seated in my chair. When I looked into that dirty little face in the middle of the rainforest; I knew that she would not have a chance to keep both of her molars without my help. I felt so guilty that I said I would only do one of her teeth I was overwhelmed and began to tear up.
Charlie came over and saw that I had both teeth restored and was setting there tearing up. He simply put his big hand on my shoulder and said, "You’re not as tough as you thought"! He had a way to help you get over your own self-criticism. A trait that comes from a big heart.
I also remember the time he extracted the last tooth in the mouth of the village Witch Doctor when we were serving the Guyanese people in southern Costa Rica. All the patients were scared out of the clinic when he got into Charlie's chair. Obviously, the surgical procedure went well with no issues. Later Charlie and I were talking about what happened when the "witch doctor" walked in and had a laugh about the whole incident.
I remember the fishing trips with Charlie who would go out even if there were 20-foot seas! On one trip he had two of his college football buddies over. We were in a fishing tournament on my boat. Worst weather I have ever seen that day, in the Gulf. It rained so hard you could not see the bow of the boat at times and the seas were rocking the boat all over the place. Both of Charlie's friends laid out on the deck in the rain throwing up while Charlie fished the trolling lines and I drove the boat trying to keep it under control. That evening when I came over, both guys met me at the door and said if I didn't cancel the next day's trip, they were going back to Mississippi that evening! I think Charlie would have gone but I really did not want to go myself so the three of us talked him down. I could go on talking about the great times I spent with Charlie at various dental meetings over the years. When I remember Charlie I am reminded of a line from my favorite play by Shakespeare, Hamlet I,3: "Those friends thou hast and their adoption tried, grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel". Gods speed my friend, I know I will see you again one day!

Charles and Lynn Stavely welcomed me and my family to Pensacola in the early 90s, inviting us to meet other dental professionals in the area and enjoy concerts. Charles was a winner and a truly nice guy, always smiling and as a result others smiled with him. He passing is a great loss for the Pensacola community.

I like to say I was Chucks first patient. He was at CMS at SHH on a Saturday and I was there working on the equipment. I ask if he needed som practice so he offered to clean my teeth. That was the beginning of a lifetime of friendship. I can’t believe he just retired and was looking forward to relaxing. My family and I are all devastated. May God bless Chuck for all he did for others. You will be missed my friend. Our most sincere condolences to the Family. Love ya and Godspeed Chuck❤

Charlie Stavely was one of kind. His huge heart, gentle spirit and kindness were always present...and very contagious. He loved to smile, laugh and make people feel comfortable. I admired that he would often ask a question, instead of making a statement about something that might be important, or maybe not, or maybe it was about fishing. Charlie was also an unconditional, genuine, eternally-loving father to Bennett, Daniel & Michael. Charlie and Kim had wonderful happiness together, including with Jordyn and Sawyer. We pray that the Holy Spirit surrounds every one of them, including his sister Starla. Charlie had a strong, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and has now greeted Jesus face to face. We pray that every person makes the same decision and has that same relationship with the Savior of the world. God bless you all, and may He comfort you during this time.

Charlie was a friend and dental colleague. We have been friends since he and Lynn first came to Pensacola many years ago. We are both from Mississippi and shared that bond as well as in dentistry. He was a gentle giant who was a good friend that would always be there to offer his help. He lived a good life and touched many people with his kindness, honesty and fairness. We were blessed with his presence and he will be greatly missed. My condolences and prayers for the family in this time of mourning. May God wrap his loving and comforting arms around each of you and bring you peace in this most difficult time.

Charley was my cousin but always treated me and my brother Bob like we were his little brothers. He had this great smile and positive attitude that was contagious. Our best summers were when my parents would put us on a bus for the short trip form Starkville to Kilmichael Ms and Charley would always spend time with us showing us how to rabbit hunt. There were always quilts and pillows in front of the fireplace at Aunt Nellies house for when it was time to go to bed. This is where I learned a comment that took my kids forever to understand. Charley had just gotten his license and was happy to take us for a ride on a Friday night in Kilmicheal and before we left Aunt Nellie said yall be careful ( Its going to be a dark night tonight) . Charlie and I were born on the same day, a couple of years apart so we shared a lot of parties together. In my eyes I wanted to be like Charlie. Times were so simple back then and visiting he and Starla were great times. So I know later in life he continued with his sharing through out his life but he had done that with everybody even as a kid. They don't make many like him so he will be missed.
