Brother Festus, as I called him, and I go way back when we participated in an N.E.H. Seminar on Slavery at University of Virginia, Charlottesville. Sharing a two-bedroom apartment with him that summer was a sheer joy, as he had a lot to say to provoke laughter. May Brother Festus Rest In Peace (R.I.P.).

I was fortunate enough to have taken a class taught by Dr. Festus Ohaegbulam at the University of South Florida. He was ambitious, effective, and encouraged individuals to strive toward higher goals. I returned to my place of employment and presented an extensive workshop on what I learned (My coworkers loved it).
(Ephesians 2:10) " We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."

Professor Ohaegbulam took time to mentor me during undergraduate studies. I became interested in African studies and did my honor's thesis under his mentorship. He was truly a great teacher and mentor, making time for his students. He was an excellent writer and held students to very high standards.

Rosalind and I send our deepest sympathies to everyone in the Ohaegbulam extended family. Festus' contribution as Treasurer and Board member was immeasurable to our mutual work in building the African Heritage Studies Association as an institution for people of African descent.
May the Creator and our esteemed Ancestors, such as Dr. John Henrik Clarke and Dr. Charshee McIntyre, welcome him into the African heaven. And may his Spirit rest in peace and rise in power!
Our Brother will be missed...
Much love and respect,
Dr. Leonard Jeffries Jr.

I new him as a colleague and as someone who facilitated the publication of his excellent book with University Presses of Florida. The director of the press said "This man can write!"-- a high compliment. He was a serious man and genuine scholar, who will be missed.

It is with condolences of honor that I bestow upon Dr. Festus Ugboaja Ohaegbulam and family at this time. I had the privilege of studying under Dr. Ohaegbulam while a former student at USF. May the family find peace and comfort at this time. A professor can profess his work, but an educator guided by God's hands can enlighten a student for a lifetime.

While I didn´t have the pleasure of knowing Professor Festus Ugboaja, I work closely with his daughter, who is a treatment to how he raised his children; strong, passionate and resilient. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time and my hope is that the beautiful memories they share will help carry them through their lifetime.
