Dr. Julian “Jay” Kelly McLendon, Jr.
Dr. Julian “Jay” Kelly McLendon, Jr., 64, of Forsyth, GA, passed away on December 21st, 2022 after a valiant battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Jay was born on September 3rd, 1958 to Dr. Julian Kelly McLendon, Sr. and Juliet Pope McLendon in the city of Bremen, GA. After graduating from Bremen High School in 1976, he received a degree in business from the University of West Georgia. In 1991, Jay earned his M.D. from Mercer University in Macon, GA.
Jay’s career as a Family Physician extended over 30 years. For twenty-six years, Jay was known as “Dr. Mac” at Eagle’s Landing Family Practice. Jay was passionate about patient care and loved taking care of people.
In 1987, he met Darlene Lynch McLendon at her parent’s home. It was love at first sight and they married in 1989. Jay and Darlene went on to have two children, Julian Kelly McLendon, III and Jessica Kate (McLendon) Gustafson.
Jay loved to ride motorcycles with Darlene, participate in car rallies, read, and flyfish. Most of all, Jay loved spending every moment he could with family and friends.
Jay was predeceased by Dr. Julian McLendon, Sr., Juliet McLendon, and Dr. Chad Edwards (nephew). He is survived by Darlene McLendon, Julian McLendon, III, Jessica Gustafson, Paul Gustafson, Jann Edwards (sister), Dr. Randall Edwards, and Marcus Edwards.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Idlewilde Event Center inside the Indian Springs State Park (Indian Springs, GA) on January 14th, 2023 at 2 PM. Park entry fee will be waived for memorial service attendees, just reference the service to the guard station.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Brain Foundation.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Jay and I were in residency together in Bristol, and Mike and I absolutely loved spending time with him and Darlene. For years we had a frequent reminder of them through the sourdough starter they gave us! I was just remembering them today and wondered where they were. I am so very sorry to hear of Jay's passing and of the struggles the family must have gone through along the way. Prayers are going up for Darlene and family. Dr. McClendon was my wife's family physician for over twenty years and mine for over fifteen. We grew to appreciate, and love him as both a doctor and a man. He was always patient, kind, courteous and funny whenever you went to see him. Our prayers go out to his family and to all who knew him. Dr. McLendon was our family doctor ( Dolanda, Ashley and Kaylyn ) since he started at Eagles Landing Family Practice. Over the years he became more then just a doctor he became a true friend, He cared about his patients and took the time with each one of them to address their issues. He was a special person that words can not describe. Rest easy my friend you will truly be missed.

Dr. Mac was a treasure, the kind of doctor who cared for and about his patients. He took time to spend with his patients, and disliked all of depersonalizing put on doctors during the pandemic. He will be missed by family, friends, colleagues and patients. He was my doctor and that of my recently deceased husband for 14 years, seeing us both through our battles with cancer.
