I attended high school with Les (graduating in 1969).
We were both avid chess fans. Usually he played 1st or second board and I played 3rd board on our Niles North high-school team. We also practiced regularly after school, rotating from home to home among our group of chess-playing friends.
Les was in many of the same honors classes which I attended, and we sometimes would work-on or compare homework assignments. I also enjoyed meeting and getting to know both his parents in those high-school days.
I recall Les meeting and dating his (now) wife, Fran. They were high-school sweethearts. So wonderful that they were able to have so much time together as a couple.
We lost touch after Les began attending Johns Hopkins and I began attending MIT. I looked forward to seeing him at high-school reunions in years we both attended. My sincere condolences to his family. I'm glad that Les was able to have such a wonderful and fulfilling life.
