My Uncle was both a soulful man & a true gentleman in his own right. He made a name for himself beyond a "Jr." His impact and lessons given to me through many joyous moments of fellowships and mentorship will reverberate throughout my life; and I wish I can hopefully be even a piece of the Man he became. Lewis was an early inspiration to me as an undergraduate at Johnson C. Smith University. When I became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi our relationship continue to grow. Following graduation our personal and professional relationship continued to grow. Two years following graduation, I left Charlotte to work in Greensboro at NCA&T, ironically, Lewis' father, the senior Dowdy was the President of the University. I will always remember those very meaningful conversations and times we spent together. May he Rest In Peace.

I came to Barber-Scotia College in 1992 feeling like I was going to fail. I registered for Psychology my freshman year with Dr. Dowdy fearing the worst. Due to his caring and amazing teaching methods I passed the first test with an A! After the test Dr. Dowdy pulled me aside and told me I was smart!!! That was the first time I was ever told that by a teacher!!!
For that reason Dr. Dowdy changed the trajectory of my life!!! I obtained a Master’s in Education and became an educator. I will obtain my Doctorate in the near future because of Dr. Dowdy and will dedicate my dissertation to him!!!
RIP Dr. Dowdy I will miss you so very much❤

It was an absolute honor to have been instructed by Dr. Dowdy 2004-2006. He opened each class with a poem and a joke. Dr. Dowdy’s door was always open for advisement and moments of humor. Forever remembered, forever honored.
