Dree Taylor
July 28, 1918 - March 30, 2022
Modesto, California - Dree W. Taylor, of Modesto, CA, passed away peacefully at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, CA on March 30. Dree was born in San Francisco to Herbert and Ruth Witt and grew up there. She attended Stanford University, graduating in 1940. While volunteering for the Red Cross during World War II, she met her husband in Nome, AK. She and Gordon were married in 1945 and raised their family in both Salinas and Modesto. She was an absolutely wonderful mother and homemaker. In 1967, she returned to school at CSU Stanislaus where she earned her teaching credential, and then taught grades 3, 4, and 5 at Woodrow Elementary School in Modesto for 13 years before retiring. Most of Dree's greatest joys involved her family and times spent at the Fallen Leaf Lake cabin that she and Gordon acquired in 1977. With Gordon, she was a founding member of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Dree was also a volunteer docent at the Great Valley Museum in Modesto. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gordon, in 2007 and her eldest son, Phillip, in 2008. She is survived by her son Tom Taylor of Fair Oaks, CA, daughter Teresa Taylor-Hoffman of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, daughter-in-law Revé Taylor of Granite Bay, CA, and her sister, Connie Wiley, of Belvedere, CA, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden, NV, (Dree's grandmother was Mary Ferris, sister to Margaret Ferris, the wife of Heinrich Dangberg), or Community Hospice Foundation.

My father, Fred Seymour, used to take me to Dree's house in Modesto & Aunt Ruth's house in Belvedere, many times for family get togethers & other special occasions.
I'll always remember a great family environment with lots of great food & warm hospitality. Dree & Gordon & Phillip & Thom & Teresa & Connie & Paige & Laurie & so many others, were always so much fun & so kind to me....memories I cherish now more than ever.
If there is a heaven, I'm sure Dree will be welcomed & honored for the good person she was in this life.
Thank You,
Dana Seymour

I feel very blessed to have had the honor of teaching along side Dree at Woodrow school. She was a wonderful lady and teacher with many interests. May she rest in peace.
