Drew Carlson Obituary

Published by Danbury News Times on Sep. 6, 2017.
Drew Frederick Carlson
Drew Frederick Carlson, 38, of New Fairfield, CT, husband of Erin Cullen Carlson, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017. He was a Sergeant in the Danbury, CT police department. Mr. Carlson was born in Danbury, CT on May 25, 1979, son of Lynn and Wayne Carlson. He attended Saint Peter School and Henry Abbott Technical High School, where he excelled in many sports including basketball and baseball and graduated in 1997. Mr. Carlson then went on to the Connecticut Police Academy from which he graduated in 2002.After performing security officer duties at Danbury Hospital, Mr. Carlson began his law enforcement career in New Fairfield and then transferred to Danbury, CT in 2004. As he worked his way up through the ranks, he became a skilled Field Training Officer and mentor to new members. Mr. Carlson understood the rigors of being a novice in the department, often working through holidays and selflessly taking on double shifts so that more junior officers could spend time with their families.
In 2016, Mr. Carlson was promoted to Sergeant for the Danbury Police and continued his leadership within the department. He received a Meritorious Citation in 2014 and in 2016 received a life-saving medal.Mr. Carlson transferred his love of sports into a lifelong passion for the Mets. There was nothing he enjoyed more than taking his family to Citi Field for an afternoon game. Mr. Carlson treated everyone he met with dignity and respect. He especially honored military veterans and often went out of his way to buy a soldier a meal. He will be sorely missed. In addition to his wife of 14 years and his parents, Mr. Carlson is survived by his children Kayla, Taylor and Tyler; sister Kristina Carlson and her partner Alan Roberts; brother Scott Carlson; niece Elaina and grandniece Mia; nephews John, Joseph, Beckett and Finley; aunt and uncle Doreen and David Arconti; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. He leaves behind many friends, especially Justin Williams, Jeffrey Raines and Daniel Santiago, and fellow officer comrades in both the New Fairfield and Danbury Police Departments, as well as his mother-in-law Kathy Cullen and father-law Robert Cullen and his wife Pearl. He was predeceased by his grandparents Robert and Lorraine Sutter and his uncle Robert Sutter, Jr. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church, 104 Main Street, Danbury. Burial will follow at Saint Peter Cemetery in Danbury. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street in Danbury. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Erin there are no words. We lost our sweet Melissa almost a year ago and the heartache is tremendous. Things will never be the same but you will find a new normal. Lean on your family and friends they will help and are a great source of comfort. I pray that you and your babies will find strength in knowing this does not define who Drew was. May he rest in peace and may you find comfort in knowing someday you will be reunited. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and forever.
