Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 17 to Dec. 27, 2023.
Ojai - Duane Joseph Montgomery, 75, left this earth to join his wife, Celia, on December 5, 2023.

Duane was born on August 20, 1948 in Fostoria, Ohio to Thomas and Agnes Montgomery. Their family moved to the Ojai Valley in 1965, where Tom and Agnes opened a barber shop and beauty salon. A 1966 graduate of Nordhoff High School, Duane started working with his parents in the shop on Signal Street in 1967 and remained there until he retired after serving the valley for 49 years.

Duane enjoyed all things outdoors including camping, fishing, windsurfing, and riding his bike. He had spent the past 4 years living in Vista with his family, feeding the birds and working on his garden.

Duane was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Celia (2018), father (1978), mother (2013), and brother Carlyle (1998). He is survived by his children: Jared Montgomery and wife, Erika, of Vista, CA, Melissa Montgomery of Fullerton, CA, and Ryan Montgomery of Tucson, AZ; granddaughters: Nia and Abbeygale Montgomery; and sisters: Sharon Morgan of Ojai, CA and Lorene Del Toro of Bakersfield, CA.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Duane's life by sharing stories and toasting with a whiskey sour at Lisa's Cantina in Ojai on Saturday, January 13th from 1-3pm.

Uncle Duane, I have so many fond memories of growing up and spending time with you at family celebrations. You will always be remembered as someone full of positive energy, an easy sense of humor, and a constant smile on your face! Your joy for life was evident in how you spread your kindness to others and filled every moment with love. One of my favorite memories is of you and Aunt Celia at our wedding dancing the night away. You two were the first on the dance floor - and never left it until the end of the night! I remember watching you both twirling around, striking silly poses, and laughing uncontrollably together and thinking to myself, "I look forward to a beautiful marriage like this." I´m comforted to think that you are both back together dancing again. <3
