We are sad to announce that Duncan Ballantyne of Edmonton, Alberta passed away at the age of 87 years after a brief illness. Duncan was born in Viking, AB and moved to Victoria, BC in 1935. He served in the RCAF during the Second World War. Following the war, Duncan moved to Calgary where he married Ruth, his wife of nearly 60 years. In 1969 they moved to Edmonton and in 1979 Duncan retired after 30 years with Alberta Government Telephones. Duncan was an avid curler and handyman, and shared a love of gardening and genealogy research with Ruth. They were also both active members of St. Giles and Dayspring Presbyterian churches. He is survived by children Margaret and David (June); four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as extended family in Alberta, BC and Ontario. Duncan was predeceased by his wife in 2009. A Celebration of Duncan's Life will be held at Dayspring Presbyterian Church, 11445 - 40 Avenue, Edmonton, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has occurred with a private burial to follow at a later date.
