Duncan Duval Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 10, 2024.
READFIELD, ME/FRAMINGHAM, MA: Duncan Richard Duval, age 68, beloved life partner and best friend for 46 years of Reverend Deborah Rogers Duval, passed away suddenly on January 7, 2024. Born in Needham, MA, and raised in South Natick, he was the son of Lee and Priscilla Duval.

In addition to his adored wife Debbie, he was the devoted father to his children Jasmine Laffin and her husband Tim, Jessica Towne and her husband Greg, and Cam Duval and his spouse Emma Chinman. Loving Grumpy to Derek Duval and his partner Alex Cohen, Piper and Tripp Laffin, Scotia and Felix Towne. More than anything in life, Duncan loved his family, his fox-red Lab Milo and his many other four-legged companions.

Duncan graduated from Natick High School (1973), met Debbie while working at Camp Arrowhead and was a longtime resident of Framingham where he proudly served as a firefighter, EMTI and HazMat Tech for 32 years on the Framingham Fire Department. Upon retirement he drove a school bus for Framingham, and after moving to Maine, the Maranacook School system.

Duncan loved spending his summers at Dummer's Beach in Weld, ME and on Star Island in coastal NH. He enjoyed camping, hiking, cycling, reading, Disney movies, and was the perfect "pastor's spouse." His ability to connect with young kids and animals was no accident; they sensed his goodness and were naturally drawn to him.

He is also survived by his siblings Carla Gavin (Paul), Adrienne Guay (Joe), Doug Duval (Paula), Jay Duval (Kathie), Janine Komola (Tom), mother-in-law Marjorie Rogers, brothers-in-law Rick Rogers (Sara-Jane) and Scott Rogers, nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 1 PM at the Wellesley Village Church UCC, 2 Central Street, Wellesley, MA. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that donations be made in his memory to:

The Star Island Corporation with the comment line "In memory of Duncan Duval for Financial Aid": https://starisland.thankyou4caring.org/donate

IAFF Local 1652 Scholarship Fund to benefit the children of firefighters. Checks can be made out to "Local 1652 Framingham Firefighters Scholarship Fund" with the memo line "Duncan Duval", and mailed to: PO Box 1201 Framingham, MA 01701

The Duval family were wonderful neighbors and we were very sad when they moved from Catherine Road. Jasmine and Jessie were mother´s helpers for me and Debbie the kind of woman and neighbor anyone would be privileged to have and know. Duncan was one of the nicest people I have ever met. He was so polite, quiet, funny, and always friendly. My husband and I would walk by their house and he would always talk with us. Duncan was a warm and gentle man and I know his family and friends will always remember him and hi will always be sorely missed. May he rest in peace. Dotty Griffin

The first time I saw Duncan was in a carseat in the back of uU Lee's station wagon in the drieway of te Strand Theater (Jackman) . His parents proudly shared their first son with his Aunt Jeanette (Duval) and Uncle Lyle Holden. He was sporting a huge grin ...which I am sure he wore for the rest of his kind life.
Many nice memories...

Our sincerest condolences on the loss of your life partner, father, and grumpy... My first memory of Duncan was meeting him at Framingham Extended Day open house before the boys started kindergarten, 25 years ago! From there were years of seeing each other at play dates, birthday parties, Cub Scouts, etc. I remember Duncan's quiet and sweet nature, but mostly what a loving and caring dad he was... So sad for his passing way too soon!

Meeting in Weld ... Deb and Duncan walking their dogs on Center Hill in the Spring, Summer and Fall. I will certainly miss that. Hugs, Deb.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Duncan. He was my children´s morning bus driver who they loved and will greatly miss. His warm smile and the way he greeted each child by name as they got on the bus is something that I´ll always remember and feel grateful for when putting my babies on the bus for the first time. May your memories get you through this truly difficult time.
