Duncan FISHWICK Obituary
May 12, 1929 – August 6, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce that Duncan Fishwick passed away on August 6 at the age of 86. Son of Elva and Joseph, he is lovingly remembered by his wife, Birgit, his children, Birgitta, Peter, and Steven, his close-to-a-son, Peter John, his cousins, and the rest of his family and friends in England, Sweden, and Canada.
Duncan was born in England and moved to Canada in 1956. He and Birgit met in Venice, Italy, in 1961, were married in Vasteras, Sweden, in 1963, and spent most of their life together in Edmonton. A Roman historian, researcher, and writer, Duncan taught at the University of Alberta from 1971 to 1994 and held distinctions such as Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, correspondant étranger of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres, Institut de France, and Correspondent of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was an avid golfer, played cricket and soccer in his youth, and enjoyed music throughout his life.
Duncan loved his family dearly and will always be much loved and greatly missed.
A private Mass of Christian Burial has already been celebrated. Those who wish to make a donation in Duncan's name may do so at YESS or the charity of their choice.
