I am greatly saddened by Stu's passing. It was such a pleasure knowing both Stu and Lillian ... in his professional capacity at the Research Station ... as a fellow Lions member and in sharing some fun times at Banff years ago. My thoughts and sympathy are with the family.

Stu was a mentor to me as a young scientist back in 1973 went I started working in Beaverlodge AB. I worked directly with Stu as a colleague in 1978. And eventually continued his Sawfly breeding work. The very successful sawfly resistant variety, Lillian, was named in honour of Lillian & Stu McBean.

While I did not Duncan directly, I feel like I know a little about his character and influence through the stories and reflections by his son Don, my colleague and friend, shared while we were taking our Masters of Education. My sincerest condolences to the McBean family and friends. God bless and keep you during your time of grief and loss to this world of your dear Duncan.

It was a priviledge (and fun) to have known Stu McBean. Caring thoughts are extended to the McBean family at their time of loss.
