Michelle, 40,formerly of Newton, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, March 13, 2016. The family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, March 17, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 18, at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. Following the service, Michelle will be cremated and a burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Michelle's name to be used for her children's scholarship funds may be left at the funeral home.

Michelle, the daughter of Gary and Linda (Preitauer) Kirchhoff, was born on Friday, June 13, 1975 in Dubuque. In 1984, she moved to Newton, where she graduated from high school in 1994. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. Michelle then received her Associates Degree in Travel and Hospitality from AIB. On September 30, 2000, Michelle was united in marriage with Terry Capman. They made their home in Altoona. Michelle worked as a sales coordinator for the Maytag Company until 2006, when she began her favorite job ever as a stay at home mom, raising her three children.

Michelle was a dedicated mom and made many days whether it was a holiday or a special day such as Dr. Suess day fun for the family by decorating the house and making "themed" foods. She loved to go to her kids' and nephew's activities and spend time with her family. Michelle enjoyed using Pinterest to decorate her home and get crafting ideas. Most all of these activities were made better, of course, if she was wearing her trademark flip-flops.

Those left to celebrate Michelle's life are her husband, Terry Capman of Altoona; three children, Mikayla, Kennedy, and Corbin Capman; her four-legged baby, Harley; sister, Melissa (Jim) Sommars of Newton; parents, Gary and Linda Kirchhoff of Newton; nephews, Kyle (Samantha) Sommars, Chad (Ashley) Sommars, and Kacey Sommars; great niece and nephew, Jade and Jasper; her parent-in-laws, Dave and Cheryl Capman of South Carolina; and brother-in-law, Kirk (Fara) Capman of Johnston. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Cecelia "Kriss" Kirchhoff, and maternal grandparents, Robert and Phyllis Preitauer.
