Ealon Hubbert Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 15, 2023.
Ealon Aubrey Hubbert Jr, an attorney and long-time resident of Sacramento, CA, died on November 8th, 2023 at the age of 84, surrounded by family.

Aubrey is survived by his partner of 32 years, Collette Howell, his children Ealon Aubrey "Buddy" Hubbert III (Carolyn), Elizabeth Paige Lawson (John), and Susan Michelle Watson (Tray), his grandchildren, Stephanie and Melissa (Megan) Hubbert, Harry and Aubrey Lawson, Jack and Charlotte Watson as well as Collette's daughter Nicole Sedleniek (John) and grandchildren Stephen and Luke Sedleniek. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Allen and Allison, and sister Norma.

Aubrey was born in Hubbertville, Alabama on January 24th, 1939 to Ealon Aubrey Hubbert Sr. and Norma Mae Beasley. He entered the Air Force when he was 17 and married Dorothy Jean Akins of Fort Worth, Texas on January 8th, 1958. After Aubrey's tour with the Air Force, he attended and graduated from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento.

Aubrey found great satisfaction in his 57-year career as an attorney specializing in Labor and Employment law and was proud of his lifelong willingness to stand up for people who were underrepresented or marginalized. His commitment to the Sacramento community was demonstrated in several ways; he was a member and past president of the Active 20-30 Club of Sacramento #1, a member of the Rotary Club of Sacramento, a board member of the American Red Cross, a member of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of the Metropolitan Development committee.

He was an active individual; some of the things he enjoyed most were skiing, biking, travel, fishing, all things Alabama football, poker, and walking Beau, the sweet King Charles Cavalier he and Collette adored for many years. He loved gardening and was an excellent cook. Aubrey had a generous spirit, great sense of humor and a wonderful curiosity; he was an avid reader and storyteller. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Bibi Yarabalavu for her care to Aubrey and assistance to our family.

Funeral services will be private. If you would like to make a donation in his honor, below are some of Aubrey's favorite organizations:

It has been a year since you left. You are remembered and cherished. I remember the time you drove me home from work, and you helped me feed my two baby sheep. We worked the night shift at DMV and got off at midnight. You were a dear friend, always from 1960 until you left. Wherever you are, Merry Christmas.

I am so sad to hear my dear friend of so many years, is gone. My memory of him, is from 1960. I met him, loved him and shared a friendship ever since. I recall, on one visit we shared, he told me he was reading great book. Jaws! His light, his smile and his sweet nature, his good heard, his virtue and honest soul, but most of all, he was unique and I was grateful to call him a friend. Good bye to the City Mouse, from the Country Mouse. May we meet again, someday.
